A coworker's daughter bought a male GSD puppy a few weeks ago. She is overwhelmed with the amount of work involved with him and they have asked me to take and place the puppy.  All I know so far is that he is 11-12 weeks old, has an AKC litter registration and is probably a B/T. I will contact the breeder, but I am willing to place a bet it is a BYB. After I get more info, I'll make that call on whether or not I want to return the poor guy just to be resold.

I don't rescue, per se, but any dog that comes through my hands always gets a free pass to come back to my house. So, I would like to find someone intelligent the first time around. I once had a lab get returned three times (the last return was 9 mos later) but she finally found a perfect home in the end. I will do a s/n contract on him (although they can wait until 18 months if they aren't morons).

Where online would be the best msg boards to post this little guy? We are in TX.

Thanks! Shannon

sHANNON  :   DO NOT TAKE BACK TO BREEDER ,,,,IT IS OBVIOUS THAT SHE WILL SELL TO JUST ANYONE....DID THE FRIEND HAVE A CONTRACT....BUY BACK   ??????

iF YOU GIVE THE PUP BACK WITHOUT RECEIVING THE MONEY BACK ,,YOU ARE INABELING THIS PERSON TO DO THE SAME THING AGAIN.....PLACE THE PUP....WHAT BLOODLINE IS HE...?   WHAT TOWN ARE YOU IN."?

YOU KEEP HOLD OF THE PUP.....UNTIL YOUR FRIEND GETS HER MONEY BACK....INOTHER WORDS  , IT ISNT GONNA HAPPEN OR SHE WOULDNT HAVE GIVEN IT TO YOU TO PLACE.....?

You can put an ad on the board , and state rehoming a special akc german shepherd,,,,picture  and all the info and have your email contact.....just find out about the  parents and all the info before you do....get permission from your friend in writing to do this....your protection unless she signs over the akc papers,,,,if she gave you the ok and the papers,,,you have possession , do not put your name on papers,,but make sure she is ok with all this befoe your go ahead,,,,

wouldnt want to break her heart....

I feel you should charge a rehoming fee...advertising a free pup just gets a bit sad...every Tom , Dick and Harry wants something free....if you process every one and make sure they know what is involved.with feeding and raising this pup and ask 10 questions before you give it up.....

And there are 10 reasons why you may not want a GERMAN SHEPHERD.....WILL POST THOSE IN A DIFFERENT  POST...

I am relatively experienced with placing dogs and will have a rehoming fee, clear papers, a spay/neuter contract and will follow up frequently with the new owners. The papers are open and the current owner did not sign a contract - while that was poor judgement on the breeders part, but I can at least look them up and  let them know their puppy has been rehomed.

He's a cute boy, although not what I am used to seeing since I mainly run in working circles.

He's cute.  Looks more like he might be a sable.  Do you know yet who his parent's are?  A bit of research can be done from there as far as his lineage.  Good luck in your efforts to place him in the right home.

Just as an update- I think we have him in a foster situation. He isn't AKC - which just makes my toes curl. I know that AKC  doesn't guarantee anything, but  it is the least someone can do...
