Hello all!
I have a new question for ya. We had a litter whelped on Saturday and TWO of the male pups have small spots on their heads with no hair! The first one was born and I was kinda like 'what inthe world?'....then thought, hm....maybe he hadn't developed all the way yet? Then a female was born with no spot on her head, just normal, then another male with a spot on his head! Two in the litter of 6. All of them are health and gaining weight with no other problems so far.
I haven't taken any pictures of the pups with these spots yet, they are relatively small yet it disturbs me that they are there at all. I wonder if the hair will grow in or if they will continue to have these spots on their heads all their lives? Any ideas to what could have caused this? has anyone had this in any litters previously?
My male has sired several litters and this is the first time anything like this has happened with his pups. The female is a totally different female than what he'd been bred to before, this being her first litter so have nothing to compare with.

The only time years ago I have ever seen bald spots and they are very round in apperance . It was due to Ringworm . A friend had a litter and they developed bald spots on body and head but weeks after they been born.

It will be interesting to see how the pups develop. May we see photos along the way? My 1st guess is that perhaps Mom nicked the pups with her tooth while cleaning them? Other than that I'm lost as for why. I would think as the pups grow the hair will come in nicely. Please let us know how they progress.

Knightenhaus. Does it look pink/red? When Falon was born - she had this spot on her forehead. As she grew the fur did start to cover, but you could always feel a slight bumb. Also the hair grew in an opposite direction - kind of. Hard to describe. At first the vet gave it a wait an see attitude, but by the time she was one - more bumps appeared around it and seemed to scratch open. She had to have surgery to remove and ended up with stiches resembling a cross - line between her ears and forehead. I am trying to remember what the vet said - but something to the effect the skin did not fuse while in the uterus. I will try to dig up the vet record so I can describe it better. She has a scar and a funny fur line, but has had no problems since and she wil be 5 in April.
If I saw a picture - I could tell you if it looked the same.
