Is there any way to validate a claim that a  specific GSD is "a" stamped?

by D.H. on 16 January 2008 - 17:01

If it is a passing a-stamp you can look up the dogs ZW in the SV site. A dog that has an a-stamp automatically also has a ZW. It is updated quarterly, so a dog with a recent a-stamp may not have its info published yet. Can take up to 2 quarters. The ZW is published here: http://www.schaeferhunde.de/site/index.php?id=688

Can someone please help me with understanding the site?  When I type in a dogs name, then push enter, I get a series of numbers across the bottom, but I haven't a clue what it means.  For example  I get something like 10/10/20/50.

That means there was no dog with that name. Check the spelling!!!

If you enter the dogs full name, ie Santos vom Gleisdreieck, the search will not work. It only works for parts of the name which then correspond with the pull down menus on the right hand side.

You can choose between
- the dogs first name [Hundename]
- the dogs kennel name without the prefix (leave out vom, von, aus der etc) [Zwinger]
- and the SV registration number [SZ-Nummer].
Make sure the spelling is correct.
And make sure the right part of the search corresponds with the right part of the pull down menu.
If in doubt start a name and end it with a *.

Examples

Enter Santos (dogs first name) and hit enter -> all dogs named Santos will be displayed
Enter Sant* (not exactly sure about dogs first name, only know part of it, finish with the *), hit enter -> all dogs whose first name starts with Sant but whose names may end there or differently will be displayed

Enter Gleisdreieck (dogs kennel name without prefix) and click on Zwingername in the pulldown menu and hit enter -> all dogs from the kennel vom Gleisdreieck will be displayed.
Enter Gleis* (not sure about kennel name, only part of it), hit enter -> all dogs with kennel name starting with Gleis will be displayed.

Enter 2119317 (SZ number of Santos vom Gleisdreieck), click on SZ-Nummer in pulldown menu, hit enter -> only the info of Santos vom Gleisdreieck will be displayed.
Enter 211931* (SZ number, but only part of it), click on SZ-Nummer in pulldown menu, hit enter -> all dogs that share the SZ number up to there will be displayed.

This it with these examples.

D.H. as usual gave excellent advice, and I will add one (1) more thing. Unless things have changed in the last year or so, if two (2) or more people are trying to look at the same dog, only the first one can see the results. The other(s) must essentially wait their turn until the first person has left the website. This may well be because the database is protected in some way, or the server(s) are slow. I vote for the latter.

Don't get frustrated if you cannot find a certain dog, and just try again later. It is but one (1) database with an entire world taking a peek at a wonderful collection.

Regards,

Bob-O
