They are heavily involved in AKC confromation and show/ finish CH's on many dogs....this is just about all I know.

If you like those lines....I personally don't but to each their own.

If you do not know the difference between Am-showlines, Ger/Euro-showlines and Ger/Euro-workinglines I HIGHLY suggest you do some research before making any decisions.

Any suggestions as far as breeders go

I have an Am bred, a Ger show/working cross and a Czech/slovak workingline.

I'm a huge fan of Czech/slovak working lines.  My favorite breeder/importer www.eurosportk9.com

Melanie

What is it you plan to DO with this dog? That will greatly influence you selection.  If you are specifically looking for an Ambred Showlines Dog then there may be better forums to ask.

I really think Linda Shaw's site is a good one that gives some kind of inkling of the different types of GSDs but there are also variations in temperament as well.

I have read good things about the kennel. You could go to the forum section of www.germanshepherds.com. I believe the breeder is a member there and does post.

Littleone,

If I wanted an GSD that was mostly Am bred lines, Karin Wagner, Alkarah, would be the person  I'd contact first.  I have been to her kennel -  her dogs are lovely,  have superb temperaments, their kennels are large, in tip top condition and the dogs are spotless. Karin likes the import x Am lines combination and was one of the first,if not the first AKC breeder to use Jim.  I saw one of her Jim sons, Diamond Jim, an AKC champion and a very nice dog. Karin is also an AKC licensed judge and both she and her husband are very friendly people who just love and appreciate the breed, imports and Am lines alike. They offer good guarantees on their dogs and stick by them. None of this you have to give the dog back or you have to feed it a specific food, etc. crap.

If you are interested in an Am line  or an import x Am line GSD, IMO you could not go wrong with an Alkarah dog.  I came very close to buying one myself, sadly there were no puppies available at the time, but I was still invited to visit and see all their dogs which I did. There is no reason whatsoever that one of these dogs could not make a wonderful companion dog. If you are looking to do Schutzhund, then you should probably look elsewhere.
