Anybody know the going rate for 8 wk. old GSD pups shipping from Frankfurt to Northeastern US these days? Can we still put three in a box or only two? I wrote GK Airfreigt, but as yet no reply.

Hey Shelley, You can get 2 in a #400 crate.  It is going to cost around 400 to 600 euro.  You also have to figure out ground cost and overnight stay if the Kennel is not going to drop the dog at the airport.  The euro is killing the US dollar.  You might want to negotiate the price with the kennel.  My last deal I told the kennel what the max. dollar I could spend in US dollars including shipping.  Let me know how you make out.

Thanks guys.  Arrival airport either Phiily or Newark, whichever is cheaper. Its the same distance to either one. The breeder will transport the pups to Frankfurt fluhafen in time for the flight.  I need prices for one puppy in a small crate (8 weeks) and/or 2 in a larger crate. I used to be able to bring 3 in a 500 crate, plenty of room, but I think they may have stopped that. If its cheaper to go pick them up and ship them home as baggage, I just might do that.  Any excuse to take a run to Germany works for me!

Thanks again,

SS

I know with adults you are definately better off going there and bringing them back as luggage.  Especially if you have someone that will put you up for next to nothing.

DEFINITELT better to go get adults!  I have borught home as many as 8 at a time. I don't even want to think how much I saved in air frieght + I got a nice trip in the bargain going around picking them up, staying with the sellers, visiting clubs, seeing lots of great dogs. If you have the time, its great fun, but I don't see myself getting away till later this spring, have to go in fall (entering Jed in the BSZS) and the hubby doth protest if I take too many trips in the year.

SS,

Check airfare prices... you're correct in thinking that sometimes it is possible to pick up a cheap ticket to Germany for less than the cost of shipping, especially if the Germans are charging you in Euros.  If you're flying out of Philly or Newark into Frankfurt you can get some options with direct flights.

Especially this time of year, airfare to Europe is much cheaper than in summer.  I've flown from Baton Rouge, LA to Paris, France for $400 round trip at this time of year.

Good luck!

Wow. $525. to ship a baby puppy these days!

Now THAT is worth considering a trip over for if I want to bring more than one dog over!

Thanks all. I think I'll go to the passport office this week.
