Rezkat5

Just thought I'd share this story.  As some of you know, I work for a vet and occasionally a client will ask for breeder references on GSD's.  I spoke with one a few weeks ago and gave them a couple of working dog kennels and a couple of showline kennels.  Told them to do the research, know what kind of dog they want, look for health certifications, yaddy yaddy yadda.  I didn't even get into the whole titling thing.  Tried to explain the different types of GSD's that are out there.  That it can take some time and you may have to wait for the right dog sometimes.  At the time, I felt that all of this fell on deaf ears.  As one of the questions was, is there anything closer?

Well today, maybe 3 weeks later in they come with a pet shop GSD!  That the young adult son went out and bought.  Then the mother was all worried about health issues.  Puppy mill in MO.  And the kicker is, so far a very nice outgoing puppy too.  LOL  and not terrible looking.  Well, we'll see how he turns out.

Just thought I'd vent a bit, as I wasted a good chunk of my time talking to them!

I'll top that one I also work at a vets office and today we had a client come in to AI a female Lab to a male Beagle I had to walk out of the room I could not take it.  One of the other girls asked how much she gets for the puppies "Labee" and she said $800.-900.00 WHAT is wrong with people that they will pay that much for a mix breed. Breeders like that make it very hard to tell JOE SCHMO not to breed their dogs and to spay and neuter when the SO called breeder down the street is getting that amount of money for a mutt. $$$$$  I don't get it. We can talk blue in the face about Hips and Elbows,Brucellosis test and every other kind of test you should do and it goes in one ear and out the other. I don't understand why if you want a mix breed dog then go to the Shelter or get one out of the paper why keep paying these prices and keeping them in business.

And we are supposed to be the smart ones. It is a 10-15 year commitment you need to do your research

Yea, that tops mine!

Though we did have clients breed their Goldendoodle at 15 months old back to a Golden.  Although I do think that the owner knew that we weren't happy with them!   And of course she had 8 healthy puppies!  Come to think of it, I don't even think that we even saw them back for puppy vaccines.  Either it wasn't done before they were sent home, or they went someplace else.

A Labee!  WTF will they come up with next!  It's getting so ridiculous anymore with these glorified mixes.  Our most popular is the Goldendoodle.

Last year a man contacted me and wanted to use my SchH 2, KKL1 Lebenzeit, OFA Vrated male for a stud for his female. The female was nothing more than a pet quality, poor pigment, not terribly nice structure, timid, cow hocked and etc. with no training, no socialization etc. The dog was not up to date on any vaccine, not because the guy thought they were harmful, nor had it had x-rays or OFA rating. Of course, I refused. He asked why and I told him. He called me a "nazi bitch" LOL. A week later I heard from a neighbor that this guy who apparently does not live too far away went next door and bred the female to the male lab mutt !

It is sad and pathetic.  I often loose heart because we cannot seem to turn the tide. This is an example of why some well-thought out legislation would be reasonable. But instead, we all go crazy the minute someone mentions it. We are our own worst enemies and sometimes I think of the species and breeds we love.

I used to think that the AKC was to blame in part because they'll register anything.  But these glorified mutts are registered anywhere.  Although, they'll probably be a Goldendoodles of America club before we know it.

My neighbor has a Golden Doodle AND a Party Poodle.  They went back to the breeder to get the Party Poodle because the doodle was dog agressive and being dominant...so they figured he needed somone to play with.

Bred by the Amish.  They really know how to make $.
