I have a Long Coated GSD btich and we are going to breed her once and we were looking for a stud and we have found a possible stud he's Long Coated like mine and he's got german working lines in his blood which gives him a Roach back and I was wondering would i get short haired pups aswell as long coats and will i get a mixture of roach and straight or will they all have on type.

I couldn't find the great one PSP uses, but hopefully this one gets the same message across!

I did not know that German working lines give roach backs.  Learn something new every day.

You will probably get both long and short coats but i would not put her to a roach backed dog .

pagan: You must be a magician to get a short coat out of two long coats.

Sometimes, I admire the extent of human ignorance.

If you breed your LC to another LC... that's just propagating LCs... which should not be the mentality... I have an LSC and yes I still consider him a Long Coat because he does not fit the standard... but i let him be a dog and if can do it by himself (mount his own bitch...) then let him be... I understand that before LC's were banned from breeding in Germany... there is an old standard that says Long Stock Coats are.."provided there is sufficient undercoat, it may be passed for breeding, as long as the breed regulations of the country allow it. "... Now if yopu ask me you are not doing any good for the breed if you propagate LC's... GET YOURSELF ANOTHER BREED... like a COLLIE... I'm only keeping my Long stock Coated because some breeders  approach me and would like to have improvement on their breeding stocks...e.g. bigger heads, heavier bone... firmer backs and plusher topcoat...  I could add that these are the LC that are unusual for their phenotype..." I saying that the LC's are known to produce narrow heads and skimpy chests..." The LSC's are different... as if their just like men who has more hair... tying up intelligence and masculinity is a different topic...

Please chose another Stud-dog with a shorter back that is known to produce straight-backs, a stud that gives out good heads...(narrowing you blood line to just LC's will get you Collies in the future..) May I suggest looking for DDR bloodlines that are prepotent with their characteristics to correct your bitches problems,,, NO to LC propagation...!!!
