Names? Web sites? I'm getting closer to deciding on a kennel to get my next dog from, and yes though working lines are my top preference, I would consider a German showline if I could find a breeder with good temperaments and none of those damned roaches. Does such an animal exist???

Can you post a picture of what you consider a "roach"?

GoldenElk,
why do you want to buy a showline? You have so much distaste for them and stated that so many times. Now you want to go out and buy one. The same old topic which has been discussed ad nauseum, the roach!!! The roach is a fault just like the sway back is. Most showlines do not have a roach. What you perceive as one is an illusion which is created by stacking. V-rated workingline dogs have the same back as showlines. Good example: The recently deceased V-Veus vom Haus Veile. Go and look him up. My workingline female has the same back as my showline girls. Please get off this topic! If you don't like the appearance of showlines, go and buy a nice workingline or even an Ambred, but you will have to look real careful to find rock solid temperament there.
Good luck in your search!

Roach is not an illusion, that is a tired comment and I wish people would stop saying it. If a dog is standing unstacked and it still has a pronounced curve to it's back, then it is not an illusion but a physical fault.
I don't completely distain the showlines, it's the back that bothers me most. In any case, this is not to rehash an old argument, I'm trying to keep an open mind and I want to know if there are kennels producing "showline" dogs with good temperament and no roach. It's just a question.
Dog1 - roach backs have been illustrated on this website a plethora of times, just do a quick search.

This guy looks pretty good. Almost no roach at all. It is so slight that even I would consider him as a possibility and I don't care for the showlines much. But this guy is pretty nice.

I checked and can't find any reference to what 'you' consider a roach. There are many conformation line breeders that do not have roach backed dogs as a roach back is a serious fault. Many do not know the difference between a roach back and a correct dog in a stack.
I thought by asking for a picture of what you considered a roach and could refer you to a number of breeders that have correct backs in their breedings.

I think you would need to see the dog in person as photo's do not really show a dogs stature.
I know what your talking about GoldenElk, I see what you see alot of times and I do believe its just the way the stack is done for the camera.

Oh my, all showlines and V-rated workinglines have a roach then. I learned something new today.
GoldenElk, there are no serious showlines breeders who have dogs without roaches, as they would not be successful in their breeding program. They would not stand a chance to compete in the showring against the roachy ones.
Again, go for one of those workinglines or better, the Ambreds.

TwoMoons,
a few years ago, the SV illustrated exactly that. In the monthly magazine, they had the same dog standing naturally and an extreme stack photo. Nobody would have thought it was the same dog. The author had warned the breeders and show exhibitors against stacking a dog like that because of public perception, but unfortunately, the tendency still exists and gets even worse.

Its good to be appreciated Silbersee, its hard to judge anything from only a photo.
