wow!! THANKS for sharing !!!! What breed is she? Are you the trainer? Is that usual to start training @ such young age???? Are there "breeders" specifcally for service dogs to produce the brains///temperment & work-ability required in such dogs? Besides Labs--are their other breeds commonly used? Can they be "mixed" breeds? Do trainers search shelters etc for prospects & thus save a dog?
wishing continued success, so this young lady will be of "service" to someone in need.

I am not sure I would say "normal" to start at 4 to 5 weeks, but normal enough to be frequent. Service dogs can be any breed, mix of breeds, or thirty breeds. The only size requirements would be dogs that are required for guide dogs and mobility assistance dogs, or dogs that are required to more physical things like pulling a wheelchair.
Some organizations take "donated" dogs, usually the poorest quality pup in the litter that someone feels they can't offload lol. Some organizations have a small group of breeders from whom they get service dogs. Some organizations use almost entirely rescue dogs. Really depends mostly on the individual dog, not so much on the breed.
