Naya's Mom

I am finally getting ready to register my czech bitch, Danica. According to the AKC's website, I will need to send in THE ORIGINAL copy of her Pedigree...this greatly worries me, for SEVERAL reasons: 1. What happens if they loose it?! 2. I'll have paid for a purebred with NOT ONE SINGLE paper to back up my word. I want to hear other's experiences with doing Foreign Registration with the AKC, and if you have any tips on what to do, or what NOT to do. THANKS, HAPPY NEW YEAR! PS. I don't need instructions on how to download their Foreign Reg. form, I just want some advice about what to do about sending her Original FCI pedigree.

Don't send the original, send a copy. I have done it this way many times without any problem.

I would make and keep a notarized copy of the pedigree. Be sure to copy BOTH SIDES, as I think there is some valuable information on the back side. I should get my puppy's breeder in here...we just spent a VERY frustrating 9 months trying to get my puppy's sire registered, so SHE could be registered! Here's what I can tell you: 1) Make SURE all parts of the SV pedigree, including the change of ownership info are complete and signed. 2) You will need to submit pictures of your dog: L and R side view, and front view, in a stacked pose. 3) I think DNA will be required too. It was for my pup's sire. Good luck, and be prepared to WAIT. AKC is a bureacracy, and you know how efficient those tend to be!

1. Never send the original, make a copy! The foreign Registration department will except copies! 2. You will need more than just a pedigree to register a foreign dog.

Do you have the export pedigree? or just the pedigree?

Far as I know, both her sire and dam are already AKC Registered, even though they reside in CZ. If anyone has information regarding Gerro Leryka and Wera z Milberku and their existent (or non-existent) AKC Registration, please, PLEASE post here or Private Message me. THANKS!

If you have FCI papers you need to register her as a foreign dog with the AKC. To do that you need to make sure you have an export pedigree which means basically that the FCI recognizes you as the owner. What does it say on your papers?

Color Photocopy front and back of the original registration papers and send the photocopy in to the AKC. (KEEP THE ORIGINALS YOURSELF!! even if they tell you to send in the original.) You should be able to call AKC and ask them if the sire and dam are already AKC registered. They should be able to tell you either yes or no, and if yes, what their registration numbers, etc... are. While you have them on the phone, ask them to tell you everything that you need to send in, in order to complete your dog's registration with them. Make sure to record the date, time and with whom you spoke, in case you need that information at a later date. Goodluck, and hopefully everything will go smoothly for you in your dog's registration. Thank you all so much! I called the AKC (around 4:30pm) and was waiting and waiting, so I just hung up...I'll try emailing them, that way I have EVERYTHING in writing. Thank you to everyone who PM'd me as well! I'll keep you updated as to the status of her Registration. Thank you!

Krista, Here is what you need: ~~a COPY of the export pedigree from the Czech Republic with your name on it as the registered owner at the Czech Kennel Club as well as signed by the previous owner. FYI, the Czech side and the Slovak side have different Registries...the export pedigrees look totally different. ~~two pictures, a front and a side view. ~~the application for foreign registration. ~~the *Abroad Confirmation*, which is a letter of transfer of ownership from the Czech Kennel Club, such as the Bescheinigung from Germany. This actually should not take too long...it takes longer to get all the paperwork from overseas than from the AKC, from my experience. You definitely need to do the DNA...just ask them to send you a kit and they will do so. I have had no problem with foreign registration at all. If you purchased this pup from someone in the USA, I would hope they will give you some guidance in getting this done. I hope this helps, Connie Constance Krebs, RN Spartanville Shepherds www.spartanville.com
