Hello, My name is Andrew. I am in the US Military stationed in Japan. Last year we purchased a GSD from a breeder here in Japan. He is pedigreed with the Nippon Police Dog Association (NPDA). How would I go about registering this dog in the States when I return in 2009? If anybody has any knowledge with respect to this issue, I would be much obliged. Thank you very much, Andrew

Andrew, thank you for your service to our country. The only advice that I can offer is that you contact the A.K.C. at this link http://www.akc.org/index.cfm and ask them what you need. I do know this. For A.K.C. registration the dog must be registered through an F.C.I.-recognized kennel club. If the Nippon Police Dog Association is part of the F.C.I. then it would be like the registration of any import dog, i.e. long pedigree, registration certificate, photographs, DNA, etc.. If not (and I suspect it is not) then you need to find the original pedigree of this dog and determine the affiliation of the registry with the F.C.I.. I took a peek at the webpage of the Nippon Police Dog Association and it seems to be a multi-breed organization. That makes sense. Perhaps this dog is F.C.I. registered? That is what you must determine. Of course I cannot read Japanese so I am no help! Regards and Happy New Year, Bob-O
