My sister just sent me this link of a farm where they will take unadoptable dogs. Not sure where the farm is located, but my sister says this guy will fly dogs in if necessary. (Sis lives in California so I'm guessing the farm might be in California, also.) Don't know anything else about the place, but God bless whoever it is for trying to give the dogs nobody wants a last chance. http://www.smilingdogfarms.com/Our_Dogs.html

Why are people so quick to make accusations? This place just opened and the owner a friend of my sister.

If anyone cares, here are a few dogs that are currently available for adoption. Apparently my sister's friend Robert does not own the farm, but will fly dogs there as a last resort. http://www.robertocabral.com/adoptadog/

Last I heard Jay had run out of dogs in Texas to bring to his sanctuary... seems all of the puppers in Texas don't need any help because they're all at Smiling Dogs Farm  & now Jay Hellerich is pulling in Ohio(?):

Yep I found it doing a search he pulled from Carrolltown Pound in Ohio:

Google:

URGENT:  Last Weeks Carrollton Dogs!! + HELLERICH@aol.com

Not too long ago he took in 94 dogs from Phoenix, Arizona.

If a pregnant dog has pups there he keeps the puppies, too.

I read about it on his website...

Just Google:  smilingdogfarms.

Smiling Dog Rescue uses about 10,000 pounds of kibble a month + other food...

There was a big posting on the net asking for money for food & money to build pens for more animals...

I wonder how many volunteers are helping out there now?

Last I heard Jay only had between 2-6 on a regular basis.

So if you can't send money, send dogs!

Or go there and help:

Yeah, and some of these places end up being tomorrows headline of neglected dogs.....do your homework people. They also do not have the skills to properly evaluate the dogs they take in.

I have done GSD rescue for almost 10 years and if it seems to be too good to be true, most of the time it is. In many, not all, but many such places, people start these type of places and ask and ask and ask for donations. They take every dog offered, and many are offered who are NOT adoptable and probably should be euthanized. They get the dogs and for at least a while, all is ok. Sometimes they even have a few people trying to volunteer time. Just ask how many times someone volunteers, one puts in all the training time to help that volunteer and then they drop off the face of the earth because they are too busy to volunteer. Then the you know what hits the fan and suddenly there is no money to feed, the people who took all the dogs are being evicted off the property etc., and local law enforcement has to deal with a crisis of sometimes tens and sometimes hundreds of unwanted dogs and/or other animals.

I am not saying that is what goes on here, but beware. We even have a "rescue" in this state who takes dogs, breeds them and then sells them to the next sucker. In the meantime, legitimate, licensed rescues go without any help and fund their operations essentially out of their own pockets.

Check these places out carefully and do not be suckered.

Don't hate me for saying this, but what sort of life is that for a GSD living 24/7 in a kennel with hundreds of other dogs? On one hand I am one of the first to do what I can to save any dog, but I'm really wondering lately if life in these big rescues really is a better choice than euthanasia for a breed that craves human companionship so much. It takes all the light from their eyes and I think they are already dead at that point in time.  So sad...........
