Local Toronto columnist and editor, Peter Worthington talks about a tradition going back to Rin Tin Tin and beyond: soldiers in the war zone adopting dogs. I found this interesting, though my concern would be for the dogs after the Canadian troops withdraw. I doubt very much the soldiers would be allowed to bring them home, and their life in this poor, war-torn country would probably be very short. http://www.torontosun.com/News/Columnists/Worthington_Peter/2007/12/27/4741031.php

A little off topic but I have a nieghbor who contracted a disease similar to limes and was told this strain was brought into the usa from vietnam by military service dogs. Its not curable only treatable for simptoms. He was in a coma for weeks and disabled for months. It had been observed on the east coast for many years and is now in the midwest. Does anyone have any idea what I am refering to? I dont think he even knows alot about what this was. Just curious.
