Shelley: Did he ever live in a house? I have an older couple who just lost their 2.5 year old dog - got away from them and got hit by a car. They are looking for an older rescue gsd. This might be a good fit if he has some manners and can walk on a leash - without pulling them too much. I am at work today - so best way to reach me urgently is Cheryl.moriarity@dsm.com. I will drop her an email now to see if she is interested in saving this poor dog. Cheryl

This guy is safe but still needs a forever home. His story is on the germanshepherds forum in urgent rescue section, a couple of pages back.

Some people are just plan out stupid and ridiculous. Were suppose to have intelligence, which is suppose to be one of our main gifts as a human being, yet some haven't evolved into this intellectual human being that were suppose to be. I firmly believe that some people today still have a brain like a caveman. This person who owned this dog should be charged with animal cruelty, if whats said is true and the dog was living in deplorable conditions. I would of instantly take out my camera that has a video capability and start snapping and recording the dogs living conditions and report it to the police. I pity the veterinarian that was going to put this dog down simply because the owners didn't wanted the dog anymore. It should be against the law that a vet cannot put a dog down without it being proper diagnose of having a terminal illness/Severe trauma/Diseases or having a severe behavioral problem that can't be fix by training.

Some vets don't. I've worked for a few that refused to put down a well dog. We would ask the owner to sign off on the dog, they did, and we called the local humane society or took them home ourselves and found them homes. Most owners who want to "get rid of" a dog don't take them to the vet since they don't want to pay the fee. They usually dump them somewhere or take them to the shelter saying they are a stray.
