Hi ... any tips on what I can do to stop my GSD puppy of 6 months from guzzling her food - she is like a piranha....have tried feeding her away from other dogs, smaller meals, bowl on raised platform....at my wits end - my other dogs eat with such decorum I am quite embarassed by piglet! Thx

Hi. Ï use an old baking tray for our "piglets"! As the kibble doesn't stay in a small area, it stops them from choking themselves into a frenzy. Though i'd rather have piglets than ones that you have to hand feed. Good luck and a happy new year!

Haven't tried it, but here's a product that might work for you. http://www.orvis.com/store/product_choice.asp?pf_id=13RP&bhcp=1

I have always found that putting a large kong in the bowl of kibble slows them down. The flat pan suggested above also woks.

I use a bowl called a brake fast bowl-kind of looks like a lego block, has three posts that stick up from the bottom, really helps slow down the eating.

If I have a young dog that is crazy for food, I feed them out of interactive toys. I do this several times a day to make sure that they get thier daily rations. You can find several great toys at http://www.aboutdogtraining.com/panel.php?8 and they are very durable as well. Use them with my adults as well.

Flatter wider feeder with a huge rock or something in it that the dog has to work around. I could see a smart pup picking up the kong and just moving it. I think they make bowls now too for those fast eaters. Also the interactive toys to feed them are a good idea.

We do one of these with the inhale eaters. Put a King Kong in the middle of the bowl. Add water to the food. Adding water seems to work best for the 3-year old. The kong works fine for the 6-month old.

Savanna are you feeding her enough? Is it a good quality food? I would love it if all of mine had strong appetites. some are picky eaters. Is she choking on her food? If she eats good and isnt choking on it, if her stools look healthy, I dont think I'd worry about her table manners at 6 months.

Now's a good time to start her in tracking by feeding her only on the track if you plan on doing tracking. High food drive is nice :-b There are some good articles on tracking here that will guide you if you wish to pursue tracking. http://www.schutzhundtracking.com/
