I shipped a dog to a trainer in AR on Dec 5, the trainer did not keep the dog so he sent it back to me on Dec. 21. Upon recieving the dog you could see his ribs, he had thick yellow infection running out of his nose, he could hardly stand and when he did he was very wobbly. I picked up the dog at the airport on Friday, Dec. 21 at around 10:30 pm. When I got the dog home I took photos of the dog. No one should be allowed to treat a dog like this. On saturday morning I took the dog to the vet. The dog was x-rayed, blood tests were done, In less than 24 hours after recieving the dog, he died. In less than two weeks the dog, a 15 month old GSD went from 64 pounds to 51 pounds. The vet said that he had been neglected which was obvious. He had pneumonia, a foreign object in his stomach and a gastric disorder that the vet said would probably turn into bloat. The dog died saturday evening. I also found out that the trainer changed the date on the health certificate that I originally sent so that he could by pass a vet. No vet would have let this dog be shipped. He said that he did this to save money. I have already contacted the ASPCA, the Department of Agriculture in Arkansas and will be taking the dog to Ohio State University on Wednesday for an autopsy. I am in WV and need to know if there is any attorneys in Arkansas that specialize in this type of prosecution. I intend to prosecute this individual if at all possible. Any suggestions on legal matters is very much appreciated.

Did you send this dog there to be trained, or did you sell it to the trainer and he decided he didn't want it? I'm confused! Either way, no, the dog didn't deserve what he got at all! I don't know anything about the laws on this, but I'm sure that there is someone out there that can help. Keep us informed.

First of all...How did he get a health certificate from a vet if he was in that condition? So if he passed a phony certificate, you need to still try to hold this vet responsible. If vet denies seeing this dog it might give you a way to get some charges against this bad guy.
Unfurtunately unless you have some kind of contract with this trainer, you are probably at a loss. I'm sorry to hear you lost your dog and sorry for the dog too.

So if I read that right, the guy changed the original health certificate that you used to send the dog? Wouldnt that make it a federal case, since it would be fraud and across state lines? It doesnt sound like the vet is to blame, if he only saw the dog when it first went and not when it was shipped back?

Type in United States Puppy lemon Law.Each state has their own laws protecting the sales of animals in the USA.
All the states are in alphabetical order. Some states have no dog lemon laws, but a lot do!And they dont take this lightly either.Go for it.

I'd sure check with the state dept. of ag, and the feds. Shipping a dog with fraudulent health cert. may well be a federal offense. I would NOT contact the airlines. They are getting too apprehensive about shipping pets as it is!

Shelly is correct !!! You absolutely MUST notify the state the dog was shipped to you from if this guy changed the date on the Health Certificate, It is a Federal Crime to do such a thing... It is fraudulant, and punishable as such...
State Dept. of Aggriculture, I would call the capital city's listed number for the "head honcho" there... Also need to notify YOUR vet who issued the original document of Health, As he may well be entitled to press some charges for the changes to the original documents...
Good Luck and so sorry for you and your dog !!!

That is a crying shame. If I were you I would also contact the US Dept of Agriculture and the US Attorney. This person needs to be stopped from doing that to someone dog. On matters like this you need to push "full steam ahead". Most agency's will pass you around to so many different offices you get tired of the run around and usually don't follow through.
Write yourself up a draft of your complaint and SEND IT along with your complaint to every agency you can find.
I would also try to sue him on Judge Judy, she don't like animal abuers and the world can see what a dirt bag this person is. PLEASE don't let up on this.
also, where did you find this person? I have a dog I want trained, I would never send him off, I'm hoping to spend time this spring with Shelley!

this person needs to be named..... everyone must protect their dogs from him, and some folk come across very plausible on the phone or email, so you would trust them. Name them, I dont think anyone would blame you in these circumstances, I`m so sorry you lost a lovely dog in his prime.
