Anyone here know of this particular dog? If so, are there any critiques about him (in English). Do you know what he is like working and temparament? Thank you, Vixen

Hi Flipper was a dog imported into the UK by Helmut and Dorathy Luking in Scotland, UK maybe 10 years ago. He was a very nice dog; good drives, extremly good grip and speed in C, good fast "b" and nice in type. Dorthary worked the dog and he did well in the sport in the UK, (think she finished in the top 3 at the Nationals in the UK) and also sired some nice stock cheers Nugget

Hello Nugget, thank you so much for some background information regarding this particular GSD. Very much appreciated, Vixen.

I heard he was a very small dog and that he died at quite a young age but don't know what from. I do know a few people who do steer clear of him where possible but I've never been told the reason why so maybe someone could throw some light on that one ?????.

A friend of mine had a dog and bitch by Flipper from the Stebara "D" litter, both large and healthy animals with excellent temperament and working ability. The dog was the reserve UK Schutzhund National Champion, beaten by his litter brother by 1 point with two more from the same litter in 3rd and 5th places, in 2000 I think. I have two males from the bitch (I saw her tracking and doing obedience and was so impressed I just had to have something from her), sired by Pasco Peko Haus and they are both brilliant dogs and one of their litter sisters has produced very well in UK. I have seen quite a few dogs from this family line and have liked what I've seen, but they can be tough and fanatical so they are definitely not for the faint hearted. Margaret N-J

Hi; With regard to the dog Flipper, I don't recall him being small (apart from comparison with some showstock; I have no doubt that he was towards to the top end of the breed standard), and I cannot remeber when and why he died. Whilst the dog was very fast, as I remember, he was very receptive to handler/helper input, and didn't need hard or regular correction (no bad charecteristic, unless you are into the macho thing). Worked him with the late Paul Gavin on occasion. A good dog, in my view; I am sure that with the knowledge in the UK we have now he would have turned a few heads. Nugget

Was somewhat concerned by what 'Good Eye' said about some people "steering clear of him"!! Then reassured by glowing comments from Kaffirdog and again Nugget. Strangely though certain views of Kaffirdog and Nugget appear slightly contradictory, i.e. the suggestion of a tough and fanatical line, and what would sound like a controlled well-balanced dog. !!! Would you consider that Flipper (a few generations back on a Pedigree) would be an asset to a litter of puppies? Kind regards, Vixen

Can't speak for the dog's progeny (which I think others describe) other than to confirm what Kafirdog states re the results of some of his decendents in UK Trials, but I knew the dog; Flipper was himself, in my view, a controlled well-balanced dog. I think some of his decendents are active in the sport at this time; his owners could posibly fill you in on that; Nugget

I have a Stebara bred male grandson of Stebara Deika, Great grandson of Flipper.  Cannot fault his temperament with animals or people, full calm grips, well balanced dog with excellent hips, elbows, eyes and haemophilia clear (no I am not advertising him).  Breed Survey Class One.

Very handler responsive, calm but drivey.

Not sure if that info helps.
