I've heard all of the pros and cons about training bitches. Having said that the biggest issue I hear from top level SchH trainers I know is that bitches require more to get them to show more in the protection phase and that it is a a truly outstanding bitch who can show what the a decent male with very good trianing can bring forth. So my question is, how do bitches do in Ring and if better why? How is ring different then SchH in that bitches can excel? I'm asking based on the Animal Planet Ring show thread here on the forum. It seems that the bitches in the show took everythign there was to take in. Is this typical? Does one tned to see more bitches in ring then SchH? How about the higher levels?
Thanks,

I did not see the show but there are a couple of things in my humble opinion:
1) It is easier to find a good Mal bitch than a GSD bitch.
2) The difference in how the sport is judged. Sch is about power and grip so males will almost always score higher. Ring is about speed, agility, technique and control.
3) In ring sport, esp level 2 and 3, there are alot of points to be had in the jumps. An average size female Mal can do the max jumps, so it's a push there between males and females.
4) The program is long. 20-30 minutes for ring 2 30-45 minutes for ring 3. Females tend to be a little more willing to please their handler, so they are willing to work with their handler for longer periods of time.
5) The scoring in ring is very strict. You can lose alot of points in a hurry. A small, fast dog can sometimes be quicker to the bite and not get juked. When the decoy esquives a dog, you lose points real fast so a fast dog can make up points by not getting juked, or getting to the grip faster when they do. Not saying females are faster, just this aspect makes it a more level playing field between males and females.
6) The outs have to be lightning fast. So you go back to the control factor. Females are easier to control. Ring sport is all about teaching techniques and control. If you have a dog that is taught good technique and is easy to control, you can do well.
7) I think females are smarter. In ring, nothing in the bite work is never the same so a dog has to think more.
With all that said, when it comes to the big trials and championships, the males still win.

That interesting I was out at the club to night working my female alone, and Iv noticed the last couple of days she hasnt been on point she works but not like usual. Well sure enough she is going in heat so we cut practice time down a little ,but I thought what would I do if I was at a trial or an event how would this affect her. I know it would piss of the guys who had males there. Any thoughts on this?
