The last few years some have remarked how the German Showlines have started developing too much length in their rear lower leg. Certainly there has been an ongoing problem with steep croups, rump roll-up when moving and roach backs for a number of years. Length has often been an issue in working lines, but there have always been some WL GSDs with very correct confirmation (not overdone in angulations but adequate with short backs and correct croups). Showline color has often been better than WL. Sometimes a young dog appears that has perfect angulations and proportions and properly angled croup of correct length. Here is my view of a very praiseworthy young male. This dog is very similar to the type of the early 1980's which I liked the best of all. Who would not be happy with the appearance of this young male? http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/514155.html

I am a Workingline German Shepherd person...and I must agree that this male is very nice looking...I would like to know more about his working ability...but this is truly a step in the right direction for the showlines... ~Bob~

I won't presume to call that young male "ideal" in conformation, but to my eye he looks a lot better than many of the show dogs posted on this site. But that is just an opinion from one picture. Who knows what kind of temperament, drive, or working potential he's got??? That's a lot more important.

I like the way he looks but I see nothing radicaly different in his pedigree. He is mostly a Quanto von der Weinerau with a little Canto Von der Weinerau bloodline. Then down the line a lot of Yasko and Ursus. Which is very typical of the showlines. I woulld like to see a little more Mutz von der Peltzierfarm or some of the working line dogs. So I agree nice dog but his pedigree is very very typical of the German Showlines and in the long run will not change much.

Mine is a Long Hair but other than that I think he looks pretty good. http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/521583.html He has a little Mutz thrown in. There is a regular coat still available at http://www.vonsalerno.com from the same little. His name is Yuma. They are asking quite a bit for him but if you like the young male listed you will like Yuma Vom Hubbard as well. He is listed on this database. Yuma is nearly 7 months old. Mine has a great temperment does great with other dogs very smart and beautiful. I was worried about his drive but that is comming along nicely. He has always had good play and prey drive but would tend to run back to me when scared. He is growing out of that and is very confident around older larger dogs. He got rolled by a 200 pound dog and barely noticed it. Mines hip sockets are very deap and his rear legs are beefing up nicely. He is very trainable as well. Don't know if this is the kind of info you wanted but here it is anyway.

Indeed, he is a nice looking pup. Ideal? I can't say. He has an overall similarity in type/structure to my Ursus son at 6 months: Photobucket

You've got an Ursus son, Louise?? :cue irony meter: OMG....why didn't you say so? That does it...[redoubles efforts to get a decent, stacked picture of her Ursus/Dallas grand-daughter posted...]

For comparison, here is a photo of Preston's "ideal": Photobucket Perhaps its's no coincidence that this pup's dam is linebred Ursus 4,4-4.

They are both very nice looking dogs, though, of course, Preston's needs to mature a bit more.
