1) If you have the name and registration number of a German-bred GSD, what is the best place to find the dog's pedigree information? That site someone posted a few days ago sucks for anything more than 10-15 years back.
2) I'd like a conformation critique of the dog pictured here. I don't own this dog, or any of its near relatives, I'm just trying to learn. Yes (please don't run away screaming!)it's an American bred.

What info are you looking for? This site and the other listed are a wealth of info...don't know what you think is missing...except maybe all the Am bred stuff.
As for this dog...it is too straight in front, as usual..the back angles are bad, and it has a bad underline. It's topline looks okay. It has a bad stop and I can't tell if it's male or female.
And...waht's with all the Am. dogs being posted here? Is there a new demand or are they trying to bring them back to standard?
If you have a specific question on a pedigree...I am sure someone here can help. So many have such a diverse range of knowledge it's great!! Maybe not for the Am lines though..but ask anyone a question about a German line and I am sure you will get an answer.

I was going to say exactly the same thing - and add to that flat weak feet, low ear set, possibly light eyes, and flat withers. Clamped tail doesn't do anything for me, either.

Neohaus, not all dogs are listed on this website, even if they ARE German born. And I specifically asked for how to find info on a GERMAN dog, if you'll go back and read my post. This is for a friend: she has the name of the dog, and its SZ number, but cannot find its pedigree information.
As for the dog in the picture, I was going to say she's (it IS a she) is too straight in front, has weak ears, weak pasterns and feet, and like most American breds, too long a back.
What is wrong with the muzzle stop? Too pronounced? Looks like she possibly might have a slight Roman nose.
Once I've got a few more comments, I'll tell you why I picked this particular bitch to critique. :-)

When you say straight in front, what part is that referring to? The underline- is that referring to the placement in relationship to the topline? Or is it the contour of the bottomline?
Thanks

Her shoulders are too straight, not enough layback, Dawgs.

Okay, I have to shut down the computer, and won't be back until this evening.
So, here's the scoop on this dog.
In an inteview, Lew Bunch was asked what dog came closest to his ideal GSD. This is the dog he picked.
Here's the quote:
Is there a dog, whether alive now or not, who to you typifies most closely the "ideal" German Shepherd Dog ? If yes, please explain and give details.
Yes, Am and Can Sel CH Lynrik's Kristal - true poetry in motion, totally sound, could do it all on a loose lead. In fact when she went GV under Connie Beckhardt, Leslie dropped her lead and Kristal made an entire pass by herself. Look at the AKC Standard Video, you will see Kristal and this alone is worth the price of this very educational video.
Here's the link if you want to read the whole interview: http://www.showgsd.org/lewbi.html
There's a number of interviews on that site, with different judges. Makes interesting reading. Yep, and helps explain just why the American GSD is in such a sad state.

I don't have a problem with her face or expression, she is supposed to look feminine. But, like most Ambreds, her angulation does not suggest power and stamina. I also noticed the same with Geneva, the champion bitch being shown by Jimmy Moses. Looked good in the stack but did not show that beautiful gait that IMO should be a signature of the breed.
