Did anyone else hear that congress signed into law on Friday a bill that would ban the importation of pups younger than 6 months of age into the USA, & that no pups could be brought into the USA until they were vaccinated for rabies, etc.? I just caught the tail-end of a story on ABC-GMA, & am wondering if I heard that correctly...Thanks, jackie harris

i just got one out of belgium 12/4/07. it was the first time i had gotten one that already had a rabies vacc. at 8-9 wks. personally, i don't like to use rabies vac. that young but the breeder and g.k.air both said the regulations had been changed and now requires it. so, i think you can still ship pups; they just require a rabies vac. in order to do so.

Oh Bravo Congress, I'm sure glad they have our rabie intrests in mind. Too bad that can't pass some bill worthwhile that will actually benefit America! I didn't know we were overrun by rabid dogs in our counrty.

is congress going to make sure that all illegal aliens have the correct, up to date vaccinations?

by 4pack on 17 December 2007 - 14:12
How about we just stop letting illegals import themselves period?

I found this very interesting article which says the problem stems from "rescue" organizations importing large amounts of "rescues" from other countries when their own kennels are empty. Wow.

Well, I can see the problem - with all these dogs coming in so that people can have shelter puppies instead of sheter dogs. Kind of defeats the purpose of an animal shelter.
What solutions could be proposed that will fix the problem and still allow the importation of quality purebreed dogs?
FWIW, The individual states already have some strange laws in place. SEVERAL years ago I flew a 12 week old puppy from Alaska to NC and the dog was required to have a rabies shot to travel. I was not a happy camper and we still had to do the shot at 16 weeks (I think - or whenever puppies have to have their first shot)
