Why pay $35 to register your dog with them, what advantage or good comes from registering with them?

by Trailrider on 14 December 2007 - 22:12
If you want to show in conformation they have to be registered if over 1 year of age.

GSDs do NOT have to be registered in the breed registry to be shown. They must be registered otherwise with USA but it is a different, and more expensive registration. For my money, I would NOT register dogs in the breed registry because it is a duplicative registration, although USA thinks otherwise. In the end, it is a money making scheme and in my opinion, will prove to be of little value to most breeders. USA would have been better off to do other things with the limited resources it has, such as things that REALLY benefit the average member (who is not a breeder generally speaking either).
Just my opinion.....

Total waste of money in my opinion! The only registration that matters is the AKC. Molly why don't you field this question?

Hodie, I agree. If the U.S.c.A. registration is for anything, it is for but snob appeal. I sometimes think that people with dogs registered thus think it has the same definition as an S.V. or A.K.C. registration, which of course it does not. The A.K.C. is the ONLY stateside breed registry that is recognized by the F.C.I..

Isn't it $80 to register in the breed registry and $35 to just register them to be in a conformation show? If I am wrong explain it to me please because I was thinking about doing it...
by hodie on 15 December 2007 - 04:12
Trailrider, I think you have the fees backwards. For showing purposes, the fee is $80. I do not know for certain what the fee is for USA registry, but again, it is duplication and not recognized by anyone except someone else who said they do it too. The average dog owner, even United Schutzhund Club members, do not even register their litters with United Schutzhund Clubs of America. And why should one? Again, not reasonable, not necessary and who recognizes it? No one. Just another example of the organization shooting itself in the foot, rather than spending money to make sure the average club and average club member really gets something out of belonging. (*for example, funding helper training at the club level...)

This is frustrating... I have never shown in conformation, just did a few trials which all you needed was to be a member, scorebook, and of course the entry fees. I was told in order to show in conformation if the dog/bitch was over a year old you need to be a member, register dog with USA for a $35.00 fee, bring with 3 (maybe it was 4) generation pedigree, proof of h/e if old enough, dog has to have a tatoo or microchip in case of later a chip reader too, and this can usually be done at the shows. I wasn't planning on any of it until June, hope I get it figured out by then! If it is that much I might just bag it anyway. Kind of ridiculous.

It is 35.00 for an individual registration with USA. This is a requirement to show. Your dog does not have to be USA registered to trial. There is a more expensive, dual registration for USA/SV, that seems to be the money waster. In Germany you have to have AKC papers to show your dog.
As of right now yes, the registry is most likely a revenue generator but I think it will grow. When it is fully functional it will generate pedigrees similar to the SVs with way more information than the AKC papers that we get now. I would like to see USA implement programs to reach out to new owners and provide instruction on the ring training, schutzhund breed surveys etc. My idea would be to provide a higher degree of interaction with USA for those who have USA dogs but no club access.
The registry as a long way to go, but the BAC is working on it. Anybody with input should get in contact with their RBW and make suggestions. It is a new program and USA is looking to make it great, while there is still a chance to have input do it!
