I noticed that most types of dog food (premium included) can be purchased online for reduced prices. Pile on a coupon or find free shipping and you can save some reasonable cash. My issue is that I can't find anywhere online that provides lower costs then my local retailer. This is for the Evo and their normal line of Adult & pupy large breed products. Does anyone know where Inova product can be purchased online for reasonable prices? I'm paying $42.95 for Evo, large bite 27lb bag and 44.95 for the Large breed normal food 33lb bag.
Also, if you know of an online resource that offers decent discounts, free shipping or good coupons on a fairly regular basis that would be a huge help as well. I've used petfooddirect in the past (while feeding Canidea) but am not sure how they compare to other merchants.
Thanks for any help,

I you are feeding Innova Evo because of the no-grain, I recommend switching to Taste of the Wild, also a no-grain food with lower protein (Evo is WAY too high at 42% protein - that's what cat foods have, and dogs don't need that much protein) - TOTW is not as expensive, there are three choices of what kind of meats you want to feed (bison/venison/chicken, fish/sweet potato, and fowl).

Molly,
I believe that Taste of the Wild is made by Diamond.
I have tried the food in Samples given to me by the Diamond Rep.
Here's the pitch...
"A grain-free formula with sweet potatoes and peas provides highly digestible energy for your active dog. Made with real roasted meats, this formula offers a taste sensation like no other. Supplemented with fruits and vegetables, this hearty formula delivers natural antioxidants to protect your friends body from the damage of everyday living, supporting a healthy immune system and overall good health. Your dog craves a taste of the wild. Go ahead and give him one."
But...The meat content is nowhere near as complete as Innova's Evo
This food is 30% Peas. A Carbohydrate then potatoes another carb. Diamond has never been known to use good quality meats either. It costs $39.95 for a bag here. I think Thats too much for mostly "peas and potatoes." Not to mention...The peas cause flatulence.

I will not feed my dogs 42% protein - that's what I feed my cats. Dogs don't need it, and it can and will 'fry' their kidneys. So, Evo is IMO not good for dogs unless your'e conditioning them for the Iditirod. I do think the Taste of the Wild is an excellent alternative, and it has a very high meat content (try 4-5 meat sources in the first few ingredients), a normal protein level, and no grains :) Made by Diamond, so the price is reasonable.

Molly,
I am not arguing that Evo is better. I won't feed it for the same reasons you mention. But you can't classify Taste of the Wild as anything other than a "gran-free" food. It still carries a lot of the same issues as other feeds out there.
The Diamond Rep also let it slip that the potatoes are cooked at high heat. That's been found to be a carcinogen.
Not a really ideal food either.

no arguments, I just got the info for TOTW and have my first few bags to try myself. My dogs have been on 1/2 TOTW for only about two weeks now. I have had very good results with all of my dogs on Chicken Soup, also made by Diamond, also reasonably priced and high meat content - my dogs have never had better coats even when fed raw (actually especially when fed raw). So, I'm trying it because it sounds good to me. Will see if I continue to feed it after giving it a good chance, though I can't see how my dogs' coats could improve over what they look like now on the CS food.

Molly, I fed diamond in the past - no issues - (other than my allergy dog) but was glad I was feeding raw at the time of the aflatoxin issues; a number of dogs in my area died (but we are only an hour from the Gaston plant).
Have you talked with the Diamond about that -- and what kind of incoming QC they are now doing on incoming materials? - I know it was a pretty big mess for a good while.
I noticed they are doing a pretty good job of having a number of economical corn-free/single protein source/basic kibbles - and finding single source protein has been very very hard - my be reserves for allergic dogs. [I know there is chicken fat in all of them but we never had a problem with the fat, just the protein]

FWIW I am not feeding raw now - between having one immune comprimised chicken allergic dog and rug-rat size grandkids - I just don't want to deal with the potential salmonella and keeping the diet balanced.

Chicken Soup is corn-free and always has been, so the "issue" with Diamond products being contaminated didn't affect me. I've fed kibble with no corn/no wheat content for many years, never fed "Diamond" food. I do know that Diamond did a good job in correcting their mistake - there was one employee trying to cut corners and save money who allowed the contaminated corn to be purchased. That employee was fired, their checking policies are strict, and I don't think there will be any more problems with Diamond. But anyway I never had a problem as I didn't feed their foods with corn ingredient in the first place. I think they are a very good company.

I used TOTW for the last 6 months. I have found my dogs to be very gassy, and the worse part is all 3 have lost weight while eating a substantial amount. Coats, and energy level is very good. Poo is good. But I am tired of feeding a large amount of this food, and having problems keeping the weight on.
