Ok - now that I read this, I know FOR SURE this is not on my list of movies to see..
The actor's greatest scene, which represents an inspired staging choice on the director's part, consists of a prolonged, agonizing close-up of Neville dealing with his dog after it's been contaminated; you're thankful not to have to watch what he's doing, and the powerful emotions Smith expresses are riveting to behold.

Its a movie. Its fictitious. Personally, something like this wouldnt keep me from seeing the movie. As a matter of fact, a pre-purchased tickets this past week and am seeing it tonight.

I'm going to see it no matter what. The movie looks good, with or without the dog. AS far as my opinion, Will Smith doesn't make crappy movies. Should be a great flick.

Agreed, should be good. As for the dog, it walked away when filming was done. Whats to be upset about? Unless you want to be mad that she got a bigger trailer than you or I would if we worked on the same movie. lol. Since the dog isnt in every scene of the previews, I assumed something happened to it along the way. I guess since there was no secondary character to lose (Will Smith being the only man alive and all) the dog had to stand in for the partner. lol.

OK that movie was "different" but it was funny and entertaining. I didn't get up and walk out.

We just saw it, less than an hour ago, The Movie was EXCELLENT, and just that... A Movie...
And a damn good one, His love for the dog, I wish just 1/16 of america would show they're dogs such devotion as he showed to this dog in the "MOVIE" But it's the movies....

I just came home from seeing it as well. I thought it was a really good movie. Kind of a mix of Sci-Fi and Horror. Yikes! I was surprised that I made it though "that scene" without crying though. I braced myself ahead of time. I kept telling myself "it's only a movie". As Artillery pointed out - we all know the dog walked away after filming was done. It's still tugs at your heart though. I had to come home and give my 2 a big hug afterwards.

I forgot to add a thought in my original post. I really and truly hope that the GSD doesn't become the "IT" dog of the season. I love the breed too much and that would be such a sad thing IMO.
It always seems like when a movie comes out with a dog in it; that is the breed of day. I don't think the majority of people actually research the breed and then end up with more dog than they can handle. They see that cute and adorable GSD pup from the moview and who can resist a GSD pup?!?! It makes me cringe because several months down the road I'm sure some of those dogs will end up in the shelter or in a rescue.
Just my .02 on the subject.
