GSDs of other less common colours, like white and dominant black, could 'carry' golden sable without showing it, but the chances of it remaining unseen for many generations are pretty slim, so where it's come from is a bit of a mystery :) Would be interesting to see photos of this ones parents.
And no, not related to coat length in any way, nor to the 'white gene.' White can actually hide any of the GSD colours.

I know of several breeders who breed for these dogs. From what I've read, you can get Ay dogs when you breed a blue carrier and a liver carrier together.
