I have a 14 month old female that has not had her first heat cycle yet.
Is this normal?  Most of my females got their first heat between 8-12 months.
She is a healthy happy puppy.

My pup went into her first heat cycle at 10 months. I've heard of some that go through a silent heat as their first cycle. Maybe this is what has happened with your girl?

i had 1 that took almost 13 months to cycle, it all depends on the   female body and she is not ready to cycle yet.  if she is a big girl , the big ones do take longer . if she has not had a cycle by 18 months , i would take her to your vet  for some test , to make sure there is not something else going on. its all about the hormones, which decide when i dog will cycle.  Bea

gouda,
sometimes you can miss the first heat cycle if it's light.
Having a male around helps, they never miss it.
I'd say keep a good watch for the next couple of months.

14 - 16  months is not terribly unusual for a first heat in this breed.  I bet she is just about ready to come in.

It is unlikely you "missed" the first heat as well.  The vulva swells and it is pretty obvious.  If you are concerned, take a white paper napkin and check her every day.  A juvenile vulva is different than a vulva after a heat.

From my understanding if at 18 months if you have not seen a heat and you have checked her daily, then you can start to worry.

I have one that had her first heat at 17 months, after that she was regular as clock work every 4 months and that was APIA.
