If you are searching for OFA reports, they only allow you to go back as far as 1970. Were dogs OFA's prior to that? For example, this dog here, born in 1966: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/403352.html The photo says he was OFA'd and the report was GS-904. Yet, when I enter his name or number in the database, I draw a blank.
Is there a separate database for these very early OFA reports?

Not that I know of but OFA reports were always published monthly in the Review the magazine of the GSDCA. So those of us with good libraries can verify that way and sometimes thru old ads. If you note by searching for dogs born in 1970 their numbers already are in the 5,000 range so there is a significant number of dogs missing. The classification system did change at one point which may be why or more likely OFA may have just canned the old records. I think someplace - not necessarily thru the main site they do have an ask the ofa questions - need to ask see if they can get the historical data loaded. It may also be an economic decision that not enough people are interested in the really old stuff to make it web accessible.
Just out of curiousity what's the connection w/ Korporal - or did you just stumble across his page?

I was entering pedigrees that had 2 dates on them, a birth date, then a slightly later date with just the month and year. I suspected those were the dates the OFA results had been done, but could not find the info on the OFA database. This dog was the first one I found that gave me proof that he HAD been OFA'd.

A person who may have some information regarding this is Louise M. Penery, for if memory serves me correctly she had the fourth (4th) GSD who was examined and certified by the O.F.A. Perhaps she will post here and provide some answers.

There are no numbers on the OFA site for any breeds issued prior to 1970 and some after that are missing too. I can't find a dog I had certified in 71 or another that was done in 72. If you're looking for a dog certified after 1970, try searching using just one small part of the name, there are alot of misspellings on that site. For example if the dog you are looking for is Kodiak the Wolf, try searcing under Wolf or Kodiak instead of the entire name. However, some are just not there if they were certified in the early 70's.
