Several weeks back I agreed to purhcase a female off this database bred to Paska Salztalbick. Then I was told the dog was no longer available. I was able to cancle my bank wire and only lost a few hundred dollars. I was told Paska's owner was going to keep the bitch as Paska was injured and no longer breeding. Now I hear Paska is dead. Does anyone know what is going on there, and if Paska is still alive? I was very much hoping for a good black son from him! And of course, I hope for Paska's sake that he is alive and well....

Condolences to Paska's owner. I heard of Paska's death just a couple of weeks ago when the Calderons flew a bitch over there to be bred to Paska and got there and found out he had passed!

What was wrong with him though?

Yes, Paska is dead. He was euthanized last month.
He suffered from an injury which happened last year in December. Due to that injury, he was not be able to breed females until early July. He then bred a handful of females, including mine. And yes, Dean went to Germany to breed to Paska as well, only to find out that he had just died. Karla called me immediately with the news. I then talked to Paska's owner on the phone and he told me the whole story. He said that no vet could help him anymore, because he had a lot of infections due to his injury and in addition suffered a tear in the urethra. That unfortunately was his death sentence. I hope this great dog rests in peace!
I am also grateful for my litter out of him. We kept a male and a female. They are 11 weeks old and doing great. And no, they are not for sale. I have had a few email inquiries already if I wanted to sell either one. I think Kraftwerk had a litter by Paska too. If you want to, I will check with SID (Stud News of the SV) who else was able to breed to him. Maybe, you can purchase a puppy from one of them. It just has to wait until Monday morning, since it is on my office pc.
JGA, please take a look at Willi Mueller's homepage: www.salztalblick.de , click on "Nino von der Salztalhoehe". This Paska-son just turned two years old on November 23rd. Willi said that he is a worthy representative of his sire. I am going to take a look at him in person next year when I fly over to Germany again.
Another super nice black male in Germany is V-Alex von den schwarzen Seeperlen, a beautiful Lasco-son: www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/409877.html

I have heard that it was an injury of sorts. Not a genetic issue. It is a shame since it sounds like he was being highly utilized as a stud recently. We have a new Paska son flying in tonight ( Ory von der Kine ) which will be a member of our clubs new dog. We hated to hear of Paska's bad fortune.

Silbersee, yes, I just found out that Faika, the dog I had paid a 50% deposit on, is the one that was sold out from under me to Wayne at Kraftwerk . I I do not know if Wayne was either friend, a previous customer, or was just willing to pay more than the 10K Euro I was quoted and agreed to. I had already wired half , and the balance was to be sent when the pregnancy was confirmed. Then I got an email 2 days later that I was not going to get Faika and Mr. Muller was going to keep her. I was able to cancle the wire (thankfully). Now I find out Faika was sold pregnant. I am NOT happy about the situation.
Another person I know in Germany had arrangement with Mr. Müller to breed his bitch to Paska, did all the Vet checks, progesterone etc. Called to say he was bringing the bitch and was told all is fine. When he arrived Mr. Müller told him Paska was again unable to breed so he msut use a different male. Wouldn't an honest person call you and tell you so you could go to a different breeder if you wish? Why would they wait until you arrive and have no time now to go to a different breeder unelss they just want to be sure they get your stud fee money???? Maybe I am wrong aobut this, but after being burned myself, and then 2 people show up to breed and are not told in advance Paska is not available (or dead)... makes a person uncomfortable. I did see Nino on the site, and I like him very much, but now I am am a bit gun shy.

JGA,
sorry to hear that your sale went bad. That is surprising. I have been buying dogs for many years in Germany and never had to put a deposit down. Everybody I ever dealt with was always content with a verbal agreement, but I always kept my promise. These kind of complaints I also hear a lot from Germans: that Americans said they would buy a dog and then disappeared. All of the sudden they did not have the money anymore (don't you know about your finances ahead of time?). I get emails or pm's on a regular basis from Germans in which they ask if I know certain people here in the U.S. and if they are trustworthy. I guess some regular sellers started to ask for deposits from foreigners. Did you deal with Mr. Mueller directly, or was there a middleman?
