I am looking for information on Carting.  I would like to get a Cart and Harness for my dogs. Can any one recommend a good website. Thanks, Norma

Sounds interesting.  My old dog was so good with "forging" I always wondered if it would be nice to hook her up.  I think my current dog could do it too (but she as a coward used to be terrified of things dragging behind her - I think I can get her out of that if she is still like that; she's much better than as a youngster).

Personally I'd like a small sulky with a serious hard hitch system, not the simple leather lines usually used with dogs and carts.  I think those are dangerous anyway if the dog goes down hill, and less controllable generally.  But the only sulky I've seen (with a GS!) has a huge arm going up OVER the dog and then merely hitching to a standard-type dog harness or whatever (been years).

Here's a place that sells dog carts and harness.

Thanks alot animules!  Very cool!  Almost perfect to what I'd like!  But of course, their "single dog" is out of stock!

Animules, Thanks neat site. I am actually looking for a wagon type, so I can put my guys to work hauing in dog food, fire wood, etc. I think it would be neat to actually have them help me.

Looks like fun but I can't imagine the car pile up's I'd cause, if I went around town on one! LOL

OMG!! That is so cool!  And just before Christmas!! I was gonna ask for a new handheld GPS but this looks like something I would deal with the old GPS over.

Wonder if it would be hard to find someone to train you with it? I've seen way more driving with horses mishaps than anyone should. One was a 10 year old girl that was killed a few hundred yards away during a parade. Awful.  Sorry. Point being I know there is a lot of ground work to do it properly.

Any ideas on how to find a trainer folks?

A local Bernese Mountain Dog club may be able to help out with learning.  The draft work is one of the things they do at trials.

Good idea, Animules. I'll check into that. Geeze would this be great exercise or what?

Carting is great exercise for the dog. I do it with mine, and after the first few times he really took to it. If you want it is cheaper to make your own cart. if you want to go really fast I would recomend a four wheeled cart, if the dog stumbles he won't have the all  the weight forced on to him, ike he would if it was two wheels.
