I hate the sharpness for the few days after clipping them. Does the dremmel make the nail hot? Seems like it would.

I have used a dremel on my dogs nails and it works quite well. After clipping I use it only to round off the sharp edges. It doesnt get the nail too hot if you only make contact in short spurts and my dog doesnt really protest the use of it.

I use the dremel on all of my dogs. I rarely ever use trimmers anymore. I chose one night a week that I line all the dogs up and go at the nails. With a couple of the dogs, it did take a bit of desensitizing to the vibration, especially on the back feet. I have a rechargeable one I got at WalMart serveral years ago. Works great!

I am friends with a Cardigan owner who used to work as a groomer. She dremels most of her dogs. The nail does heat up, so you do it in short spurts, going on to one of the other nails in between. It works for rounding the nail off after clipping, or, if a dog hates clippers, you can use it to do the whole job.

I've just started to use the dremel for my guy.  And the nail/dremel itself does get kinda toasty, but cools down quickly.  I find that the one that hates her nails trimmed is alot better for the dremel.  Sometimes I'll clip, then dremel.  Overall a good investment.

I use a Dremel also.  There is also something new on the market but haven't found it yet called a Peticure.  It looks very similar to a Dremel but it has some kind of protective cover over it that scoops up the "dust" and also prevents you from using the Dremel part too deeply on the nail.

Short taps on the nail and it doesn't get too hot.  When getting too close to the vein my dogs start to pull away so I know when to stop.  Haven't had a bleeder yet with the Dremel.

Here's an informational link about dremel for nails.  We keep talking about trying it and after reding the experiences here may give it a chance.

Thanks everyone. I'll get to those links but can anyone tell me which attachment you use for it? Is it the hollow cardboard tube one or the solid millstone looking one, maybe?

The hollow cardboard tube one.
