Not a discussion topic but a big thank you to those who have generously donated to the Search and Rescue Dog Foundation this holiday season and in the past year.

Two handlers received grants in 07 to replace the dogs they worked on 911. Both dogs are retiring this month and will spend their remaining years cuddled next to their handlers and new dogs.Interestingly, one handler chose a German Coolie! Interesting breed.

How do you (or can you even) donate a dog to this cause?  I have one that has been through most of the training, but the handler no longer has the time to work with her! :(

K9sar, I think the breed is lucky to have trainers like you  using these dogs as they are intended to be used, to serve man. My biggest regret has been that my first GSD was too sick to train in SAR or herding and my current dog's temperament is not good enough. Otherswise, I'd be right there with you in the trenches. Maybe the next will work out, but I'm not getting any younger  

Old, well would you believe most usar handlers are in their mid forties and older. One team has a 67 year old on it...So, let me know if  and when you want to get involved.
