I have a young ralative who is a Sheriff in Butler County, Ohio, and he was visiting me the other day and he related a couple of stories I thought I would share. These supposedly happened during the last couple of months. I was not there, but he is not one to embellish stories so I take it that they are more correct than less correct.
True story #1. He said they were chasing a suspect wanted for kidnapping, armed robbery and a couple of other things, and the guy ran towards a river, but law enforcement had sent a Mal police dog after him. The suspect jumped into the river but as he did so, the dog jumped after him and caught him in mid air. My relative states that later when talking to the suspect at the hospital, he told the cops that when he jumped and was in mid air, it felt like something "pulled him backwards" and he was confused as to what had happened, until he realized that a dog had him. According to my relative, the Sheriff's deputy, the suspect was missing most of one ear and had numerous other bites. I would pay a hundred dollars to have a picture of that dog hitting the suspect in mid air, jumping into a river. Talk about a magazine cover picture. wow.
True story #2. He said that two males had been sent after a suspect that jumped off of a railroad tressel and when the suspect landed,he broke both of his ankles. He said that the dogs got the guy and when they took him to the hospital later, the hospital reported over one hundred "holes" (teeth holes) in the guy. I can just imagine having two broken ankles and trying to fight off two mal's ripping you apart. Talk about a bad day.
My relative has two boxers but he said that he is really impressed by the Mal's law enforcement is using in his area. He said that no one he is aware of around that county, uses GSD's. But he has only been on for a little over a year there.

First and foremost, even with two broken ankles people can and will try to fight a police dog....100 teeth marks, I don't think so, even if they were resisting. Lets not lose sight of the fact that these were bad guys to begin with!!!!!

We were working on a pickup truck for a Police Officer from a small town and he saw on my desk a picture of my GSD. He told me that about a month ago they had an armed suspect surrounded in some woods, it was 2 AM and pitch black out, as well as very cold. One of the officers got on a bullhorn and announced that if the suspect didn't come out with his arms up they would send in the K9 after him, the ""Dog"" was barking very loud and they new the suspect could hear him. A short while later the suspect came out of the woods with his arms raised and was quickley handcuffed. He asked where the dog was and was told oh that was officer so and so barking we don't have a police dog in this town. True Story!

k9sar: I don't understand your posting.
Are you saying that because the guy was a "bad guy" that he would be to tough for the dogs to have bitten that many times, because he would obviously have been "tough"? If so, you have little or no ezperience with actual bad guys. Many are not tough at all.
Are you saying that the dogs would not have bitten that many times if the guy was not resisting? It would take a hell of a man to not resist if he was just bitten once by one dog. It would be a natural reaction to cover up or try to stop the dog/s from biting you. That was always one of my pet peeves about all of those cop beatings you see on TV. They grab the guy after a car chase or whatever, and then pounce on him, perhaps swinging a club, flashlight, feet or whatever, at him, and he is naturally going to attempt to stop the blows. He should have given up before they got hold of him. It looks bad as he is being hit and they are telling him to put his hands behind his back. It would take a hell of a man to put his hands behind his back while he is being hit by a stick or whatever. I always believe in wrestling them to the ground and never liked hitting them. Just overpower them. But,........I don't want to go there.
Not trying to start an argument because it ain't important, but your posting is hard to understand your point and goes in two different direction in the same sentence.
