I have just heard that there is a Company in the USA (and I also think in the UK too) that will rent out a dog(pet) under a hire agreement, all you pay is a monthly rental fee and that includes all the Veterinarian's charges etc., it's like renting a TV, is this correct????

Does this mean that when the pet get's old/out of fashion it can be traded in for a younger more up-to-date model??? Even worse scenario - what do they do with the traded in models???

Surely this information is incorrect.......???!!!!

I think it is true,  there was something on this board not that long ago regarding the same concept...

I can see some real problems with the idea... and on the other hand could see some minute posatives...

however I think the flaws will outweigh and overrule the slim benefits.

Just an opinion don't kill me for it.

I am afraid this appears to be true; I read about it on the news somewhere and they have a web page

Emotional prostitution...and we all know that people tend to trash stuff that doesn't belong to them. Poor dogs.

This is just the beginning. As usual they test the concept on animals first before humans. Look for FlexSpouse.com soon. Many of the same advantages of a marrage without all the commitment stuff. No more nasty divorces either. Think of it. Tired of your spouse???? Trade'em in. A new spouse is just a click away!

You can get a younger one, one that can cook, one a little prettier, thinner, makes more money, better in bed!!! Hey this is sounding better and better.

But be careful! There's a rating system just like E Bay so you have to be on your best behavior at all times or the feedback will kill you. Don't want anyone else to know you're a slob that just sits in front of the TV and expects to be waited on. They could drop the big one and say how big it REALLY is and you'd be washed up like the V3 male at 6 years old waiting for his next stud!

I've read the FAQ page, and it sounds like they are doing their best to keep the animals healthy and happy. They have also offered to temporarily re-home dogs made homeless by the California wildfires.

I can't say I approve of the concept, but it sounds like they are doing their best to make it work for both the animals and their clients.

1) They limit the number of people each dog is assigned to.

2) The dogs are all rescues, either from a shelter, or from people who would have surrrendered them to a shelter if  Flexpetz  didn't exist.

3) Provision is made for the person to adopt the dog if they chose to do so.

4) Any dog that becomes too old or infirm for the program will be found a permanent home.

5) Each dog has a primary care person that looks after it when it is not being rented out. It is not kenneled, but runs free with the other Flexpetz dogs, at their facility. (I'd certainly hope none of their dogs are dog-aggressive! I'm sure they wouldn't be in the program if they were.)

6) The person is given instruction on how to give commands to the dog, basic dog care, and must show the ability to handle the dog with gentleness and respect.. They must sign a waiver/contract stating they have never been convicted of animal cruelty and will treat the dog with 'absolute respect.'

FLEXPETZ dogs are given a full veterinary physical every three months.

FLEXPETZ dogs receive regular "refresher" training sessions with our certified dog trainers.

FLEXPETZ dogs are fed holistic KUMPI Dog Food, which we at FLEXPETZ consider to be the best on the market.

All FLEXPETZ dogs are fitted with a GPS tracking collar that allows for immediate location detection in the event that a FLEXPETZ dog and a member become separated. The device also incorporates an environmental temperature sensor that alerts FLEXPETZ instantly if the dog's surroundings fall outside of a predetermined safety range.

Dog 1:

Not a bad idea with the Rent-A-Spouse, you should go with it.  Would have saved me a ton of money over the years. ROFL

Dog1, too funny. Sounds like the MO's of a couple of in-laws that I once had. Find a prospective wife at nineteen, marry them, make one (1) child and trade them in at twenty-one. Gee, what a lifestyle. I am glad they could afford the divorces.

Thanks for the laugh,

"AAA Bob-O's Uptown Canine Escorts For Discriminating Businessmen & Businesswomen." "No out calls."

now THATS funny!  Especially because the one group I see taking advantage of these flexpets are desperate singles looking to meet someone at the dog park.   I say desperate because it costs a pretty penny.   Does anyone know anybody that would seriously take advantage of this service?  Remember, it's not just a once in a blue moon thing and gets a little pricey.  You have to pay annual membership, twice montlhy "outing" fees (whether you use the service or not), overage fees,  etc..

Flexpet, Flexfriend, Flexspouse, Flexkid............Perfect for the person who wants no commitments, no muss, no fuss.
