I was wondering if anyone could help me get some info on how to make a pup available for K-9 evaluation.
Does anyone here have a good idea of how the whole thing would play out? How old do pups need to be to get tested? Are there services that will help test & place a pup? Is there a good online resource to read up on this?
I have come across an extremely high drive female that despite all my begging and pleading, my hubby won't let me have. She is more dog than most pet owners would be able to handle; I even wonder if I'd have the strength to be the alpha with this one! On top of having a beautiful structure, she's got a great nose and strong prey & protection drives.
Any info anyone can give would be great. This girl needs a proper placement... I just wish it could be with me.

You are already in the hole. I'm not saying that no police will take the bitch, but most prefer a male. You will just have a harder road finding a police trainer to take. It may be a possibility of sport people being interested.
Where are you? Maybe you should try a local Sch Club first. If you live by a reputable club, they can do an evaluation and possibly point you to a police contact if the bitch is worthy.
Don't get your hopes up with anything. Depending on your knowledge, the other people may have a diffferent take on the dog. What you see as high drive may be something altogether different.
Once again where are you? Maybe we can point you in a direction

I'm in Minnesota. The closest club is about 3 hours from here.
I won't profess to know everything about drives, but we've had our male for 6 years and the breeder we got him from taught us a lot. I have done plenty of research and learning in those six years, considering getting into trials or SAR. This female has strong drives and a dominant personality.
I know that most generally, service dogs are male. This girls got a few service dogs in her lineage. Most service dogs/K9's around here are labs... I would think there'd be a department happy to get a good working dog.
But, hey... I came here to ask, because I don't know where to go with this. I appreciate any & all input.

Yes there is not much in Minn. for sure, yah? I would call the likes of Al Govednik in Ill. or Randy Rhodes in Ind. or Jill Frylling in Minn. They may be able to help. Someone else on here might know someone else too. Good luck!

I know of at least one officer that prefers females. Thay are out there. If they don't want to deal with the heat cycles thay can have her spayed, not a bog deal.

(1) Do you currently have possession of the dog?
(2) How old is she?
(3) Are you looking to sell or donate?
(3) There is a K9 SAR team in Minneapolis - whether or not someone there may be interested, I can't say. My team gets inundated with people wanting to donate the "perfect dog" and most of us already have enough dogs. But you never know. Just google minnsarda. Generally on teams the individual handlers own their own dogs. If you contact them mention lineage (if you have a good working lines pedigree that would be a plus) and one of them may, if nothing else, be able to evaluate and give you some LE connections if they are not interested.
(4) I don't know of any group that does this but this is a widely used screening test (for dogs over 12 months) [brownell marsolais) http://www.avalanche.org/~doghouse/3%20SELECTING%20Dog/xSelect%20Older%20Dog/Canine%20Screening.htm
for puppies a lot of folks use the PAWS working dog evaluation.http://www.searchdogsne.org/reference/The%20PAWS%20Evaluation.pdf

Can you send me some info? Maybe a pic and pedigree?
I am a LEO. I have a female dog I have been training who I may have to wash out due to a physical ailment. I may be interested if she would suit my needs.
You can send me a PM here or e-mail me k9sbitekeister@hotmail.com
