Hello Everyone,

From some of the past post I have read the last 7 months is amusing and I find very interesting. Some post are fun and well some are just nasty.

I have asked for advise on my dog problems to what do you think of her. Some gave adivse and e-mail me privatly which I really do appreciate since there was no bashing of kennels or breeders, just people wanting to help and be nice because they love the breed.

I have 3 gsd total 1 male, 2 female, I really wanted to get into training and working our dogs which we have. I received so much information on this site reading through old threads regarding training and lines.I do have to say I wanted to breed my girl who is a longcoat, and have several persons offer to help and give advice along the way. ( I know she is not the standard for the correct coat ). I thought about it and wondered should I or should I not. I 'm thinking O.K. I will give it a try and think about becoming a breeder. So I started reading more and more on this sight and the more I read the more I really understood how we have not help our beloved gsd, and I  was almost one of them.

I'm not going to breed my female. Thank you to everyone, for your comments on all the threads about what suppose to be breed and what is not to the standard even the nasty threads. Unfortunately this is where the passion come out regarding the love of the gsd.

Well your probably wondering what changed my mind? You all have, I have figured out there are enough breeders out there who care and well some who just want to for money. Look at the ads!!!

So I'm asking would it be  that bad if every responsable breeder would only breed half of what they normally would in a year. So if you had 3-4 litters a year only have 2.

Again THANK you to everyone who gives good and bad feedback, this newbie did read and trying to learn and understand.

Dottie, it is a big year for me when I produce one (1) litter, LOL. A reduction of available puppies might keep some away from a final end at the animal shelter-can't say.

The professional kennels and the hobby breeders (Bob-O is one) are seldom to blame-it is usually the amateur breeders  who provide so many puppies without the necessary adherence to the F.C.I. standard.

Dottie, I offer my congratulations for the wisdom of your discovery. I think I can speak for most here and say I wish that everyone did.

Regards,

Bob-O

Bob,

I truely understand that one or two litters a year is not many you are definetly not one I was commenting about,  and you must be a true hobby breeder. When I see was looking for my pup I went to 5 different kennel in Oregon and all but one kennel had more then 3 litter's each. I go back and check there sights and find them to always have at least 2 litters. These kennels all have titled dogs from germany. These are the ones I think should scale back for a year or two. Of course my opinion..

And again thank you for all your comments on the threads as I really look for you comments, knowledge and expertise.

At the risk of getting into more hot water and being again accused of being a hater of long coats, I applaud your decision to pass on breeding a dog that would not be eligible for a breed survey.  I hope you will continue with your plans to train and title and one day have a dog you will consider worthy of being bred. You sound like the type of person who will be a great asset to the breed. Good luck with your dogs!!

PS: My first GSD was a coat, I adored that dog. He died 6 years ago at only 7 1/2 years of age and I am still grieving for him. I thought he was the most beautiful dog I've ever seen and still do.

Blitzen,

That alright I really never thought you were a longcoat hater. I just understand everyone has there opinions of what they like, and some follow the breed standard and some do not. I never liked working lines, cause all I seen were faded coats sable dogs. Now that I have been on this site and travel to different clubs and shows my eyes actually see what a beautiful working line actually looks like. I favor showline and wish for the the golden middle to happen someday. But hey that what wishes are for... I just love the breed and that the more important to me then color ect. I just look for the good in each gsd I see..

Thank you for your comments.

I hope you will continue to always look for the good in each GSD you see. Almost anyone can fault judge a dog, it takes a real dog person to recognize the positives .

Dottie,

Thank you for loving the breed enough not to breed.   We have one girl many we know thought would make good puppies one day.  We just brought her home from being spayed.  Not all should be bred no matter how wonderful their people think they are.
