Some questions if I may. So what was the "DNA problem" which seems to haunt this dog and his descendents?
Is/Was Dorijan his true sire? Who was initially listed as sire and why was that dog perceived as so much more valuable in the pedigree than Dorijan that it is worth disregarding what is before theeyes and what is being produced? Why is/was Dorijan not favored?
What are the strenghts and weaknesses of this line?
Just trying to make sense of some comments I've see about Hoss and Yak. Thanks.

I don't know the whole "backstory" but I love Hoss & his progeny, and would go out of my way to breed to that line. Have, in fact, bred to Bazi Urbecke (Hoss on motherline) and love Karo Herdersfarm, Yak Frankengold (and his HoltKamper See/Hof sons) and check on Chroko Larchenhain, owned by Jeffrey (on this board) who is the owner of Bazi. There is a Bazi thread on this board where he attributes Bazi's famous working ability to Hoss.
The progeny I've seen have splendid drives and great bone & structure--very clear-headed, nice to live with and be around.
Just my opinion.

I had heard that Hoss's mother or grandmother wasn't breed surveyed in Germany by the SV and therefore SV rules prevented him from ever going VA at the anual Siegerhauptzuchschau (V is the highest allowed). Otherwise based on his producing and confirmation, he would supposedly have gone high VA. I saw a young male out of him once who was very nice in every way, with especially praiseworthy masculine type and deep rich pigment of red/black.

Preston, Isn't that the story about Lasso Di Val Sol and some poor old bitch was dragged out at an to remedy the situation?
No there was definitely an issue about who his sire really was/is but the specifics do not seem to be public.

TIG, you may be correct, and it would be nice to get the facts on this. I only remember what I heard. Perhaps both were issues for Hoss. Could we agree that Hoss was a pretty good producer? His blood seems to be strong even at the second generation.

Preston that certainly seems to be the consensus but I for one would like to know the scoop. If Dorijan is not his sire and not responsible for the good working traits - who is. Let us know so we can also look to those lines.
I find this hush hush stuff rather surprising because normally once something is public (getting it there is another matter) the SV is fairly upfront and goes in a corrects the records literally as well as figuratively.

Dorijan & Enco was earlier registered as the son of Nero Hirschel & Ulk arlett resp they were bred by Slavko Rasic of Croatia .When their grandchildren were to be registered in Germany as the Late Peter Messler had made it mandatory that all breeding stock and their progeny have their DNA screened it was found that the the progenies were linked to these two dogs but then these were not the progeny of their parents as alleged. Hence a ban was initiated against them by the SV and their progeny in 1998 and was later lifted after the parents of these dogs were screened and their actual pedigree was registered & published, the ban was then lifted. The other reason was the sheer volume of good dogs that they produced and their sons & daughters produced.
