Dear Friends
What is the correct age for a GSD male to mate and what is the best way it must be done should it be allowed to mate naturally or must help be given to him
Thanks

In the United States you can't certify a dog's hips/elbows before the age of 2 years old...So therefore I would tell you that you shouldn't use a male for breeding before that age...Also it would be a very good idea to title your male before using him for stud...but in the United States and to register the puppies with AKC it's not required...But I would suggest that the male be titled first...unless you really know the bloodlines that you're breeding...And to answer your question about how to get the 2 partners together...is also open for discussion...because everyone has their own ideas of what is right or wrong...or what works for them or doesn't work...You must also know your dogs because a female or male might be aggressive when trying to breed...I personally like to have the two dogs run around loose in a secured area (fenced in)...Let them get to know each other and they will usually mate...But if I don't know one partner or the other and how they'll react to the other then I will usually put the female on leash and have the male loose...because he will be staying right with the female...
I hope this helped you some and if I can be of any more assistance...your welcome to call me or contact me by e-mail...

P.S. I just did a mating myself...the past few days...Two dogs that have never been mated before...which can always lead to problems...but after a few days of letting them out together they have now mated/tied twice...

hi lover,
i think after having ur dog exhibited in bareilley and winning CC and RCC there, u are now concentrating on getting ur dog mated. ur dog is now big enough to do mating anywhere in india. but hold it. unlike other countries, our kci rules say nothing about ofa certification etc. if ur dog is around 18 months, feel free. the season is very good here in delhi. a lot of breeders are likely to make a bee line ouotside ur house to get their bitches mated with ur quenn's son. since both u and ur dog are new in this game, take help of some professional to get ur dog mated (mahinder). ur dog can really change the scenario here as he has the backing of very strong pedigree from both parents.
best of luck to both of u
regards,
smartboy
