Aahh Sue they are so so cute.
Puppy buyers need to look at more puppies or pictures and how they interact with littermates, so when the pup is crying because it is lonely they would understand. Puppies are use to body contact with another pup, they can hear and smell their litter mate and they are content.

I was at my uncle's farm the day they brought a new puppy home. She was 3/4 Border Collie, 1/4 GSD. We played with her for a while, then they settled her in for the night in the barn. My uncle blocked off the alley between the rows of stalls for their milk cows with some straw bales and a 10 gallon pail, and made a bed in the straw for her..
Not long after we left her, she stared to cry. When she was still crying an hour later, my aunt got an old sweater, a hot water bottle, and a wind-up alarm clock. I know this may be old fashioned, but we'd all heard the ticking reminds the pup of mom's heartbeat.
When we went out to the barn, we found out why she was crying: she'd tried to climb over the barrier, and fallen into the bucket, which was half-full of water! She could get her paws over the edge of the bucket, but couldn't get enough leverage to pull herself out!
We dried her off, and my aunt made a nest for her in the straw, with the hot water bottle underneath the old sweater. She put the alarm clock nearby, and the pup settled into the nest with a tired sigh.
Before leaving, we got rid of that 10 gallon pail!

Anytime we brought a new puppy home we would sleep on the floor in the living room with our fingers through the crate wire. After a few days they were usually settled in enough we could leave them at night. Still in the living room in their crate but we weren't on the floor anymore.
Sunsilver, glad you all foudn the new pup before anything happened. I don't use any kind of bucket type water dish until the pups are a few months old. I have nightmares of losing a pup that way.
