when im out walking, my six month old bitch if she sees any 1 or any other dog. she will get down on all fours and watch them closley until they are within ten-fifteen feet, and then get up and aproach them all excited. any ideas why?

Its play ekamb1 - thats a lovely attitude, she is using a little "prey drive" then getting to them and playing - a very nice reaction at that age, encourage her to be loose off leash with others that are not aggressive, and you will have a super young dog - sounds like you have one already Best of luck with her - Mo - Mascani

She is doing what comes naturally to her! It's also playing. Most herding dogs do this. They are yes, stalking thier prey! It's quite cute when a puppy does it. Have fun with it.

thanks for your info- penny!! she just wants to play and go to everyone, sometimes its annoying, suppose she will grow out of it when she is older, another thing she does, chases her tail (constantly) when she is in the house. even after we have been training,

do you think its because she has hi energy levels? or bordem? i dont walk her too far at the moment because she is only young

ekamb1 - like the first bit, but chasing her tail in the home hmmmm - not on. Give her a distraction. I dont know whether dogs chase their tails as a hereditory trait or a "boredom - silly habit" trait, but I couldnt live with it, and I think its not a good thing to accept. Try to distract her with no animation - in other words, dont call her, fuss her etc etc - give her a toy that she usually isnt given, or give her a hearty big raw bone to chew, and after a while take it back, - then give it to her again when other distraction toys dont work. Sounds like she has an abundance of energy, channel it to give her something to do. At her age, not forced exercise, just as much as she freely is happy to do, but you could start laying little tracks, and teaching her to scent, and follow a track, - get help from a person that knows how to teach this - its great to find they can do, and enjoy such things, and its all energy channel - in a positive way rather than negative tail chasing. we have given her rawhides to chew, which last about a week. she doesnt tail chase when she has that, but when its finished she starts tail chasing. we have now got a can with coins in that we shake, at first it worked, but now she barks at it and tries to play. . when she is in her sleeping place she doesnt do it, or if we are at the training club she is fine. her dam never did it, dont know her sire personaly. thank you for your help!!!!!

cHASING THE TAIL IS BOREDOM OF A HIGH PREY DOG AND IT HAS TO BE STOPPED BY GIVING HER A COW HOOF AND PUTTING HER IN A WIRE KENNEL FOR SHUT DOWN TIME.....
EVERY TIME YOU SEE HER START IT....VERY CALMLY AND WITH A HAPPY TONE PUT HER IN HER KENNEL WHERE SHE CANT DO IT IT WILL TAKE A MONTH OR TWO OF THIS ROUTINE TO STOP IT....IF SHE CANT DO IT SHE WILL SOON GET BUSY DOING SOMETHING ELSE....
ONE OF MY PUPS DID IT FOR A YEAR AND THEY FINALLY TOLD ME ABOUT IT...THEY WERE ATTENDING A PAW AND PADS SCHOOL AND THE TRAINER GOT THE DOG STOPPED BY THIS METHOD AND IVE USE IT BEFORE...ITS NOT CRUEL TO KENNEL YOUR PUP FOR BEHAVIOUR MODIFICATION..
MY Gauda who is 6 years old ,,red sable ,,stalks people as they approach and he does me also when I first come outside , either in kennel , or on the grounds.....hes always done that and sometime it embarasses me ,,as when he does it his ears dont stand up erect like they are suppose to and I have to tease him or call his name ...Often people say
"Whats wrong with him Why is he down like that....?" starring at us" ? Is he gonna attack us?" Funny
