I have a 4 month old and he is itching like crazy.  He has done this ever since we got him at 8 weeks.  I  noticed it right away, so when we went to the vet she checked mites, she did blood work, and UV light.  She found nothing and belived it to be allergies.  I changed his food from Canadie to Wellness fish and sweet potatoe.  We have hard wood floors in the house so it is not carpet.  He is not out on lawns or anything.  The he has scabs from the itching mostly in the belly area and arm pits.  I have tried a wash that was hollisitic to no avail he is still itching.  When I first got him he had a scab on his chest area in the shape of a circle and I thought ringworm, but that came back negative.  His scratching has slowed down since the change to wellness, I would say 75%, but still the 25% of the time he itches and then creates scabs.. HElp!

for his pedigree his name is    sam von der trauerweide

how often do you bathe him?  Does he have dandruff?

At first I bathed him once a week because he would get in the mud, or worse poop.  Now once a month.  I used earthbath Oatmeal and also the orange peel.  I also have not used any flea medication like advantage.  He did get a shot from the vet for heartworm that also works on mites.  No dandruff.  5 weeks ago he had alot all of a sudden, but that has gone with his adult hair coming in.

Nothing right now.... grea idea with the benadryl, I have used that for bee stings on my 2y/o female gsd. I will look for a shampoo with betadine, I will look online tonite, the petstores in our area are all boutique types and dont carry much.

Try Atamax and Cephalaxlin

one is an antibiotic for infection and the other is for itching

My vet prescribed both for my 17 month old  black male gsd.  And like the other person said  TRY some shampoo consisting of oatmeal/tea oil....AWESOME stuff....May take a few days to really take effect though.......

Sincerly ,

Also, what is he eating?? he may not be getting enough EFA's in his food.. he may need a switch to something else and or some supplementing..

Have they considered puppy pyoderma?? and they checked for demodex, more than once??

First of all, if the dog has been itching since it was 8 weeks old, I feel very sorry for him.  There is deninitly a allergy there.  You need to take him right back to your vet and tell them that you want a complete blood work up for allergies!  It normally cost around between $200 and $300.  If you haven't found what he is allergic to by now, I think that it would be your next step!  Chaos was getting hot spots and we deteremined it was allergies.  I DID find what he was allergic too without having to do the testing and he is all better now.  His hair is growing back and he NO longer itches.  If you want to have a happy non itchnig puppy, take him back to the vet and tell them WHAT you want done.  Don't let them tell you what THEY want to do with it.  You need to find exactly what he is allergic to.  Could be anything!  Good luck with it.
