hi,

my puppy is doing great regarding her shyness as she likes to go everywhere and walks with me most of the places. but she still shy with other dogs. she is now close to six months.

if she saw any dog she backs off bit and if its small size dog she barks and if she see big just looks at them.

she wants to play with them seems to me as i let her off leash on the park not dog park someone's lab was loose and came across my puppy and chase my puppy and she was running and trying to come back to lab. i feel like i need to socialize more to her. she already finished her puppy class now.

should i take her to dog park and let loose lease and figure out her own?

i feel if i do like that may be she will learn to play or run or chase, is that right?

today also she went close to one of the 2yrs old gsd and sniffing her mouth.

what approach would be best to make her socialize?

would be great to hear.

thanks so much.

Was she dominated by other dogs when she was younger? Sometimes this can make a dog shy of other dogs.

nope she was never.

eventhough in class the instructor let her play off leash one time that's all. orelse she hasn't played with anyother dogs yet.

if someone chase her she runs away but she comes back.

i would try letting her meet your friends dogs first or dogs you know are nice because dogs at a park u usually dont know and they might be too agressive or too rough, then nce shes OK around dogs you could take her to the park to exercise!

I would never take a dog I owned to a dog park...I guess we dont have them here in Texas....We have a part of the park   for dogs,,but it is used to potty yur dog....thousands of piles of poo and pee....no thank you

A reservation of germs, disease and dogs that you know nothing about  ,,,do they have shots,,,,do they have parvo in the beginning stage......letting someones elses dog play with yours could be dangerous in many ways......socialize your pup with friends in their yards and at puppy classes and   SCH clubs.....I hate to even go to Pets mart and I wont let others peoples dogs touch mine......

Stay away from dog parks...way too many unknowns(dominance issues from other dogs,diseases,etc...) IF POSSIBLE,find a good Schutzhund club to socialize your puppy. Dogs there tend to be much better socialized as a function of their training experiences, more knowledgeable owners/handlers/trainers who take necessary precautions to ensure safe, pleasant experiences for the pups. Best of luck!!

Around here we have  "pay" dog park where the dogs get interviewed before being allowed to join and they have to have a clean bill of health, ie: parasite free and what not.  They have a puppy park, small dog park, and then the "big" park with pond once the doggies are comfortable.  It's also lit, so if you can find someplace like that it might not be so bad.  In the meantime, you can socialize her with your friend's safe dogs.  Some dogs might be just too much for her.

Hey , thats a neat thing   I dont know of any here in East Texas    maybe someone will start one here .....good idea

Schutz People and akc people , that train,,,take good care of their pups,,,but the norm in just any park is a no  no.....your pay park would be a good idea.......wish I was younger, Id  invest some money and do that  ....probably go over real well...

I tend to believe it depends on whether the dog park is populated by idiots or 'real' dog people. Since the former is most often the case, I'd say 'no' under most circumstances.
