If you have a toy, or food frusterate him by showing it to him, but not allowing him to have it,  keep saying whatever command you want to use for your speak command, and eventually he will bark out of frusteration even if it is a little sqeak,  reward him right away and tell him good speak or whatever.  If you do this a couple of times a day, he'll learn it in no time!

Warning though, for the first couple of weeks he'll just come up to you and bark thinking he can get something everytime he barks, but eventually -also in a short period - he'll realize he only gets fed or the toy when you ask him to bark.

Good luck!!

as Kari said frustrate the crap out of him.  :)  It has to be something he really really wants and you have to really not let him have it until barks.  I've used food/toys, anything that they really want.  :)  You might have to act silly trying to initiiate a bark out of him too.

Good luck

Since he already barks when someone is at the door, have a friend ring the doorbell, at the same time give him your bark command, reward when he barks.  Do it 50 or so times over & over.  Now you ring the door bell yourself while giving the bark command, reward when he barks.  Do it 50 or so times over & over,  pretty soon you won't need the doorbell, just give bark command.

If your dog barks when someone knocks on the door, it's even easier.  Knock on the door  yourself, (or an interior wall if it makes a good knock sound) while giving the bark command, reward when he barks.  Do it 50 or so times over & over, pretty soon you won't need to make the knocking sound, just give bark command.
