To whoever entered his pedigree,  FYI ,     Falco's dam's name was Holly v Celler Schloss,  not Molly.   Contact Olli and he will correct it for you...

Thank you for the info, Laramie! I've come across a few errors like that. And dont worry, the database will allow me to correct it myself!

Okay, the name has been corrected. Laramie, if  you have any other info on Holly (the website where I found the info had very little) could you please PM it to me?

Her registration #, hip status, colour, height, etc. can all be entered on the database. I'll be glad to do it for you if you just send it to me.

[sigh...] Oh yea, it would be PARTICULARILY nice to get the rest of her pedigree info!

I find it very annoying to see that the GSD dog world is so chauvinistic! Whenever I hit a dead end in a pedigree, it's almost always on the FEMALE side. The females obviously didn't matter as much as the males...

For well know American dogs ( many of whom were German in breeding or often imports) a good place to go for the pedigrees is the GSDC site. They have a section called GSDs reviewed of dogs that were Champions, Select (Am version of VA) or ROM ( Register of Merit - for producers of ) and even have German Siegers and Siegerins.  Here is the page for Falko ( I always loved the"type" that he produced) Louise Penery can probably answer some of you questions about these dogs.          http://gsdca.org/GSDReviewed/fdogs/FalkoCellar.html

Here is the index page for dogs and bitches http://gsdca.org/GSDReviewed/adogs/index.html

Here is the base page  http://gsdca.org/GSDReviewed/ If you go to any of the sub pages for example Grand Victors there will be a list of all Grand Victors and many are hyperlinked to a photo and pedigree.  They have started to add in the performance dogs also - see ATA and PAm awards, herding, obedience etc.

The old Goldbecker and Hart books on German Shepherds had pictures and info from some of the dogs of this period I believe. You can still find older editions in used bookstores, libraries and ebay.

Here is another site that I used to use for pedigrees that was pretty good. Some errors as in all these databases but better than most in accuracy tho it's been awhile since I used them. Unfortunately I'm old enough to know when someone has the backlines wrong.   http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/4825/pedigree.html  This page also has links to several other good pedigree sites including T.P. Jensen's site (German/ Euro bred dogs)

This site specifically divides pedigrees by dog's type  ( American, working, DDR etc) ttp://www.angelfire.com/wi/gsdpedigrees/index.html  and her home page has lots of links to information re color, coat carriers of genetic traits etc. Again it's been quite awhile since I used it so it is not for me to speak to the quality thesedays. They also have a separate historical picture gallery  at http://www.angelfire.com/wi2/gsd/histpix.html

You can also purchase pedigrees from AKC or private pedigree services ( on these the correctness and quality of the information will vary). Nowadays some of the software pedigree programs are also offering their databses and or individual records for sale to save people entry time. One for example is http://www.winped.com/PedLibraries.htm and then there is the German CD's Win-SIS.

At Win ped they had this pedigree up on the web  I think as a sample - http://www.winped.com/pedigree.htm  wh/ includes Falko and has the notation x-rayed normal. I do not know the source or correctness of this information but in the early days pre OFA and "a" stamp and even in their early years that was how it was often notated on pedigrees.

Don't forget to use google and other search engines ( I like mamma.com). I know it's hard sometimes to evaluate the information if you are not familar with the pedigree to begin with but usually you will be able to quickly sort out the reliable sources like those  listed above from someone who has loaded up an image of a badly handwritten pedigree or copied their info from that w/ spelling, title errors etc. But that is the blessing and curse of the web - availability of info that would ahve taken us months or years to compile even 20 years ago but often of highly unreliable nature. I noted on a post about Jello Weinerau recently that many web sites claim he was VA4 in Germany when the best he ever went was a V rating but one person makes an error  of this type either innocently or deliberately and it gets repeated. Use to happen w/ handwritten pedigrees also jsut happens faster and more pervasively on the web and unfortunately a lot of people are not discerning in their use of web base information. Even this site ahd problems because of the opne nature of the database and the periodic "hackers'. While it's great for a quick look and general idea I caution people from relying heavily on it. I have seen many many incorrect pedigrees.

Oh another resouce to find dogs and ocassionally pedigrees is the OFA database - need to search widely not specifically (ex. one piece of the name not the whole name) and often dog's name are slighly mispelled

Here's another picture of Falko http://kris-t.com/past/falko.htm

VKFGSD, thank you VERY much for those resources! It is VERY difficult to get detailed info on American GSD's. Most of what I've found has been on the web, with a breeder or two helping to point me in the right direction. Alas, most of these sites do not give OFA information, or even the dog's colour or registration number.

Thank goodness the SV keeps better records, and makes them more accessible...

The payoff for this work is getting enough generations listed that the American dog's pedigrees are at last connected to their German ancestors, in an unbroken line!
