As the temperature drops tonight , here, I wondered how  many leave their germans outside and what do you put out for them to get into for protection.

What materials do you use for their boxes or their dog house?

Who lives in the coldest part of the country.and how cold does it get.?

Do you train inside when it is freezing outside for a  month or so...or do you discontinue training...?

Gonna be 23 degree's in the morning, some stay out some dont.  I have three.

They all come in once it hits the single digits. You talk about a houseful.

Like relatives at Christmas.

I use straw and cedar chips as bedding, about 8 inch's over a rubber mat.

We all have to work out in the cold, especially me.

I am from Florida and this is the first year that I will have spent in the figid zone...Michigan...I am learning as I go...but I have converted my barn into a kennel...It has concrete floors and is a 30' X 30' building...I also have had foam insulation blown in and will put a heater in there when the temps get really bad...It's supposed to go down to the 20's tonight...but the barn is free from wind and stays no lower then about 45/F or so...The dogs seem to really love it and have enjoyed the cooler temps...

Two Moons,
I also use straw for some of the outdoor dogs, they have a big
insulated room that has that solid pink foam stuff in the top, bottom
and sides, I was just wondering, why the cedar chips, do they keep
bugs away? And also are they to make things smell fresh & clean?

I also rotate the dogs in and out of my house, they do sometimes all
end up coming in!!

Yes the cedar chips repel insects of all kinds, and I do like the scent.  Mainly the chips add volume to the straw.

we do the same as two moons,

straw and cedar chips in the dog house.  straw  as insulation, cedar is a natural insect repellant.  in spring and summer we just use the cedar chips for bedding.  you can also spread cedar chips around the outside of kennels to help with insects during warmer months.  it will kill grass if you use it a lot due to the pH.
