hi all
how long he supposed to run and join me for jogging everyday?

Each year old GSD will be different. The dog will let you know how long he wants to go, if he even wants to go at all.
What type of surface are you running on? What pace do you keep and what distance do you go? We have a female who will be 11 in March and a 9yr old male, who jogged with us as pups and still go for hour jogs with us. They put in much more than we do, as they are always off examining something or chasing something.
We have a 5yr old big male who has always refused to go jogging. As a pup, he would go a few 100 ft from the house and then go back and let us and the other dogs go on our way. He still does the same. We have another 5yr old female who is the best distance runner for a GSD I have seen. Just like humans they are all different.
If the dog is anxious to go, enjoys the jog, and always wants more, then I see no harm. If the dog lags behind or acts lame at all, then you have a problem and the jogging should stop. I would never run a dog on cement, or asphalt. If the surface is soft and will be of no damage to the dogs pads, then I say go fo it, and he will let you know if its right or not.

Just start him out slow and watch his pads....look at them after each long mile you go....some gsd will not give you an indication their pads are being torn assunder...

You jog 6.2 miles and at what pace?
by m_zaki40 on 16 November 2007 - 01:11
what do you mean by pace?
by Luvmidog on 16 November 2007 - 01:11
as long as his pads are not hurt by the road or path you are on,,,a Schutzhund H3 dog has to run 12 miles on trial so Id say if you can do that much 6 both ways? I wouldnt push it much more but do it slowly ,,,,,and watch the water intack..
a cup only , and let dog cool off before letting drink lots of water....just a sip along the way....
