I've been seeing dehydrated beef lung as treats now days. Is lung an acceptable meat source when feeding raw? If it is, does it matter from what animal? Beef, lamb, pig, etc..... Is it considered organ meat then? Lots of questions and I'm looking for answers.

It may be fine...just read the label and see how it was dehydrated and if chemicals are listed.....Heat is usually what it done, but may have a chemical added.....make sure you know what chemical it is....How do you preserve it....always a puzzle to me how it can stay ok for such a long time.....with out chemicals......
Ive never seen lung I feed lots of beef heart infact i love beef heart fixed as a roast with carrots and potatoes....fine eating....my family was from Illinois and they ate beef heart and lots of beef back then and liver was on the menu also...liver and onions and mashed potatoes with lots of gravy.........

Animules lung is good to feed it is a organ and meat mass. Doesn't matter what animal it's from. I try to stick with all one animal at a time though. Just incase I get a reaction. Some weeks I feed beef, switch to chicken and then onto pork. Would love to add lamb but too pricey around these parts. For the past few weeks because of the skin issues, Baden gets only chicken parts. I'm sure he is ready for some beef heart. He loves those! It is also organ and muscle.

Ive fed beef lungs raw before. Some of our dogs didn't care for it, some of them ate it. It feels almost like a marshmallow. I just searched google and couldn't find much on the nutritional value of it. I know the treats are freeze dried but I wonder if you couldn't bake the lungs somehow and make treats out of it that way? Similar to cooking liver for training bait. Not sure if that would work or not. I know dogs love the freeze dried treats. So if you could figure out how to make something similar might make a good treat.

Beef lung is fine. It is a meat that humans do not consume, so it is cheap and plentiful. The problem is that USDA has a policy that prevents the average citizen from obtaining such useful waste products from slaughter houses. Renderers buy or are given such waste by meat packers with the understanding that it will be denatured so that it will not enter the human food supply. I used to buy meat from one such "renderer", but now buy human grade scrap directly from the meat packer for considerably less. If you know of a meat packer near you there are several meats that have little or no market, but are approved for sale to the public. I buy whatever beef and sheep tendons the workers can save for me as well as beef, goat, sheep, and pork hearts, and the dust that comes out of the meat saws which also serves as a bone supplement. Liver is always available, but I have found that the dogs do not tolerate it well so I only feed it once in a while. Dried meats make over feeding very easy, as most of the bulk is the water, but in moderation can be excellent. I add a few ounces of dehydrated meat to add weight on a dog when needed. Best Wishes, Jonah

Liver does have to be fed sparingly and added with muscle meat for the shepherd.....females that are pregnant should get it every day , but small amount with plenty of other meats or food.....
