OK so I am back but just to ask a question.
My dogs skin seems to be sluffing off in patches all over. He has some small spots losing hair also. What kind of things can cause this? I was thinking he may be detoxing because he was on kibble for a few weeks and is now back on RAW. It looked like the skin stuff started when he went on the kibble but I am not sure. I'm not going the vet rout, as they will just hand me 2 bottles of pills and a bill for $200 sending me on my way with no answers as to what caused it. Been there done that. Everything else with him is great, he is in top shape and feeling great. I'm not even seeing him scratch at himself. I know I would if my skin looked like his.I am just watching his skin go from pink to grey to flaking off. I have had this happen with another dog and the vet just says allergies, can't even guess as to the origin.
I'm going almost completly holistic with my dog, so I don't want anibiotics in his system for something as trivial as a skin irritation. I am just wondering what things can possibly cause this reaction? He is on allot of suppliments and oils of various kinds. I would think this would help his skin not cause problems. Anyone have any thoughts?

Hey 4pack, glad to see ya. One of ours had patchy itchy skin until we changed food and found one that she was good with and her skin cleared right up. Your thoughts of it being food related sound pretty solid.

One of mine has had some skin issue's and I am strongly suspecting Frontline.
anyone have any similar experience's?

Its a crusty clump, no color. and if I remove it the hair comes with it.
usually at the end of 30 days when they are due for the next dose of frontine.
I took him off of it this summer and began dipping instead and it cleared up. I got really tired of the ordeal of dipping and went back to the frontline a month ago and the scabby crust came back.
I think its an allergic reaction, more aggravating than harmful.

4 pack, When I put one of my females on supplements such as wheat germ oil or salmon oil, her skin and coat start to look terrible. It took her 1 month to look normal again after taking her off all suplements. Hope that helps..........I am feeding Royal Canin now and her skin looks good and coat looks good also.

I guess that goes back to a food allergy then?

Same here about the hot spot Bob-O, and my other two dont seem to react the same as my male.

I have one (1) bitch for that I do not use Frontline as I do for all the other dogs. The first time that she recieved an adult dose, she immediately developed what appeared to be a hot spot at the point of application. Perhaps coincidence- perhaps not. I discontinued the use of Frontline for her and returned to the use of Revolution. The irritation did not reappear.
All other bitches and males tolerate the Frontline without any issues. It is my observance that the Frontline is a better product to prevent tick infestation, and both appear to work equally well for fleas.
Regards,
Bob-O
