Would posting beware of dog signs on my gates help legally in the case someone may decide to open my six foot wooden gate a walk into my back yard?
I have one pad locked...just hate to lock the other and have to look for a key everytime I want to walk in my back yard.
My insurance company is aware that I have two gsd's.
Even if I do lock both gates....would signs help legally if something were to happen....or could signs make it worse?

'beware of dog' puts you in bad position legally. it implies you knew dog was vicious. better to use 'dog on premises'

No, that is not a good idea for a sign. If you use a sign use a no tresspase sign..
Your dogs your responsibility. Use a padlock on both gates, re-read your post (Kinda lazy sounding). Do you lock your front door everytime you come and go? You have to find a key for the door it really should be the same for the gate.. If any little thing is possible it can and will happen..

According to most insurance companies, if you post WARNING signs, you admit you knowingly have a dog that will bite. My insurance company suggested signs that say "Enter at your own risk". Still probably a good idea to speak to you insurance agent to find out what they suggest.

Posting the sign Beware of Dog will not legally do any good,,,In fact,,,,what it does is tell the court of Law, that knowingly
you have in your domain........ a dangerous dog......or you wouldnt say Beware.....Now you can post a sign that says German Sheperd on these premises.......that does not notify anyone of a danger zone....Just states a fact.....person then has the choice of entering as the reputation of gs is taken into account without you , the owner of said property,, giving a warning of a harmful dog on premises......you can always negate that fact,,,,,,and you never tell law enforcement that your gs has had bitework or that you train your dog in any kind of protection training.......that is a case down the tube....sorry , but the laws work on the side of the intruder and you have to be very careful what your mouth lends to this subject.....
The word BEWARE or Guard dog on Duty are the two most mistaken signs to ever post on your property for legality purposes....
Im well versed in this subject....

Personally I prefer "My GSD can make it to the gate in 10 seconds, can you?" Just kidding, I have "Beware of dog" sign in my window but not on my gate, my fence is chain link and if he's in the yard nobody will need a sign. Different with wooden gate.
But my favorite warning sign of all had nothing to do with dogs -
Warning: Tresspassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again!

I agree about the signs. They are saying that your dogs WILL bite. I have a remedy for solicitors though! I have a sign on both doors that I made on my computer. It has 4 dogs sitting at a table with knife and fork in hand and bibs on! Says "Solicitors welcome! Dog food is getting expensive"!!!! Think I have people knock on my door once they see that and hear the dogs???? Hmm What do you think, LOL!

Yes , those signs like this property guarded by Smith and Wesson or I like this one" If found here tonight, you will still be here in the morning.."""""" that is my favorite.....
Enter at your own risk is not good either......read what you just told someone..........you acknowledge that there is a danger in coming on the property and if you own a gsd. or a rotty or dobbie.....that is the reference.....assumption.....
and all a jury has to hear out of the mouth of one person.......yes we know he has a dog that will bite....They knew , you knew and like the O J case........think it and its a case of conviction....from the minds of the public...in this case a german shepherd dog.......

I place newspapers all over my drive to make it look like we are never home.
Beware of dog signs are hilarious. Kinda like the signs that say no soliciting. Sales people know that people with these signs are the easiest to sell. That is why they put up thier defense mechanism.

And just make sure you dont name your shepherd Smith or Wesson if you use that sign......
