I am new to the message board and usually try to keep out of this sort of thing, but this is something I was bothered so much by, I had to post....

I contacted a breeder in Florida about a 6 year old female she has for sale. Seems like a very nice dog. In all of our discussions via email, she never asked anything about me, my program,  my intentions for the dog, etc. She was only concerned about getting paid and constantly told me that the dog was well worth the asking price, that she would more than pay for herself with her first litter, and that if I didn't buy her, she would breed her herself, sell the pups, and then sell the dog for the same price as she has her listed for now. WHAT ABOUT THE DOG? Doesn't she care anything about her?? Shouldn't her primary concern be the best  home for the dog...not how to make the most money off of her.

Well, then I remembered a post from a few days ago concerning someone in Florida advertising "Christmas Puppies for $600!", which we all know is a big no no. I looked up the post and sure enough, it is the same breeder. I respectfully declined purchasing her dog and told her what I thought about her program. The animals are the number one priority, not the money. Yes, the money is necessary, as breeding dogs is very expensive, but making money should not be the reason we breed. It should be because we love this breed and want to improve and promote the breed at it's best.

Anyway, I just had to vent. I don't like to be judgemental, but hope that there are others out there that feel the same as I do. I love my dogs far too much to treat them that way. They are supposed to be family, not livestock!

Here is the email I sent to her....

I will have to pass on her. Unfortunately, it seems that you are more interested in the money you make from your dogs than you are about the homes they go to. Obviously, since you are advertising "Christmas Puppies" when every breeder knows you should discourage impulse buying and purchasing puppies as gifts. There are too many in shelters already due to this sort of thing. There was a post about your ad on here a few days ago. Dogs should not be a commodity. All you seem to have in mind is the best way to get the most money. You treat this female like a "puppy machine" by saying, "breed her, sell the pups, and then sell her." Do you even care what kind of home she goes to? You have never even asked me what my intentions are for her? for references? or anything. If I would pay your price, you would sell her to me regardless and never give a thought to what might happen to the dog. I feel very sorry for this girl and hope for the best for her. Thank you for your time and good luck in finding a home for her.

I agree with you rockinrkranch,

I went to her website and look and it seems that all she dose care about is the money NOT the dogs. How sad for this female i hope she gets a home that will spay her and love her for her not  the money her pups bring them.I also feel sorry for the new female she is importing because she will be pumping puppies out until the owner get other female and then she will also be looking for another home sooooooooooooo sad.

SHAME ON HER FOR SELLING CHRISTMAS PUPPIES.

I feel the same way.  Unfortunately, these types know exactly what they are doing & don't care.  They may try to rationalize bad behaviour but thats just to shut people up.  Of course, the poor dogs are the ones to pay the most.

Unfortunately this story you shared does not surprise me one bit as I have experienced it myself but not with the breeder you were speaking of.  I was given the same "sales pitch".  It SICKENS me that people will buy a dog for their pedigree/title just for the sole purpose of cashing in and promoting their business.  I understand it's a business to them but at what point do you lose your heart that you just don't care about the dog itself after it's served your purpose?  If the dog is good enough to be bred then it should be good enough to be kept in your family or kennel, not bred and sold to another kennel that will do the same thing leaving the dog never to have a family to love and protect.

I guess I would never make it as a "professional commercialized" breeder as I grow attached to my dogs, some more than others but I just couldn't trade off my dogs like people trade their cars.  Maybe if the dog you were speaking of was going to serve your needs you should have bought her and ended the madness to her being a cash machine??

I've only seen this breeders ads.  I live here in Florida. Don't recall ever meeting at any trials or training come to think of it.  Never even heard of her except for the ads.

I personally do not sell adult dogs for breeding. If I breed them, they are very well cared for...they are pets, not just "puppy producers." Some of the dogs I have are not used for breeding, they are just pets and/or sport dogs. Most of my dogs die here or I will spay/neuter and place in an adoptive home with a loving family who wants a well trained adult pet, with the agreement that the dog be returned to me if ever the need arises. I only breed my girls once a year, and sometimes not even that often...I enjoy them as they are, they don't have to be making puppies for me to want to keep them around. All are housebroken, well mannered, and get to sleep in the house at night (we have two rooms that we turned into "dog rooms" with beds, toys, etc.) We have horses also, and the dogs love to follow us when we go out for trail rides, or ride in the back of the pickup while we are feeding hay and grain. As I type this, I have three dogs lying in the office with me. I wouldn't have it any other way! Glad to see there are others out there who feel the same as I do.

HI Rockinranch,

we agree with you , but when we received an e-mail from you,it was only money-orientaded, you did´nt ask about the mother, father, lines or the qualities of the young females(8month)((you remember)) that we had for sale or from the actuell litter of our kennel.

Sorry, we don´t know "you" or the breeder in Florida, but we feel, it is not fair to judge about anybody that you has never seen in person.

We hope our english is good enough for understanding and in the other way we hope our critic it is not a missunderstanding.

Kindest Regards

Isabella and Andreas

I am interested in buying a female adult or puppy for breeding. What do you have for sale? What are prices? and how much is shipping, in USD? I would like to purchase a bitch soon.

Thank you,
