HI All,
I'm really curious to read some replies and some solid honest information.
What are your thoughts on breeding dogs either under the age of 2 yrs or over the age of 2 with only OFA checked prelims? OFA has an informative section on prelims and the % of accuracy.
I'm not a fan of it myself but i'm seeing it done more often than not now. Years ago it was the OFA certified hip ratings that was part of the key in looking at parents of a litter
What are your thoughts.. breeders? Buyers? Advantages ..disadvantages?
Thanks in advance
michelle

look at everything else that those breeders do and judge them on the whole picture. bet they are not breeding titled kkl dogs and they don't do the sport or anything much except pups.
in Europe, yes, dogs get bred before 2 - with 'a' stamps, but they are usually titled or close and titled right after the litter in the time period the SV allows to register the pup
Too many here just mimicing the SV system and marketing based on lines instead of accomplishments. The ads here are disgusting to anyone who values the breed with all the crap BYB and money hungry breeders who sell litters wtih nothing to commend them but that thier grandfather or great grandfather was titled - show or work - and in some big event or connected 3 gens back to known good quality. But hey, most of the more active posters ARE those types of breeders! Never trained or titled a dog, just buy something with/without a title and jump into breeding and selling pups. And think they should get the prices that a pup from a breeder who follows the system gets!
Hopefully buyers will think about it and ask questions when they look - and contact those who honor the system and can explain its value before jumping on a cute puppy from a litter with a nice website!

I'll be the broken record even though people are tired of hearing it and I'll get scolded again.
Prelims are just that. They are not an official hip or elbow rating and should not be used as acceptance for breeding. The only time I would even consider them is if the dog also had follow on SV ratings to reinforce the OFA prelims.
